WBB: Taylor Williams in transfer portal

I was really hoping Taylor Williams would return and get significant minutes either backing up Evans or on the floor with her at the same time. This one hurts, especially after the news of Cam Williams entering the portal. One commenter on the last thread mentioned that Cam quietly entered the portal last year and then withdrew and returned to Michigan, so hopefully something like that happens here. Stay tuned.

Taylor Williams played half the minutes at Michigan as she did at Western. I'm guessing she saw herself as a bigger part of the team. And the opportunity was there for both her and Cam to really cement minutes. Taylor never really got there and Cam was basically the same player she was last year backing up Kiser. KBA is a pretty friendly coach for bigs, so a little surprised both are leaving as there's minutes available next year behind or challenging Evans. But guessing the staff will be ok with another year of development from Evans and hope Woodson makes a sophomore leap. Though I believe we'll probably need a big in the portal because Woodson is more of a PF than a C.

Bummer! Wasn't she dinged up for a lot of the year? I thought that was a major reason for the lack of PT in the middle of the season. I was really excited to see a couple years from her.

One thing's for sure: next year's team is going to look very different. Assuming none of the players in the portal return, no more players enter the portal (didn't the window just close?), and Whitney Sollom doesn't get invited to use her COVID shirt, the remaining players from this year's team will be (starters bolded):

  • Macy Brown
  • Laila Phelia
  • Jordan Hobbs
  • Greta Kampschroeder
  • Alyssa Crockett
  • Chyra Evans
  • Taylor Woodson

They have five incoming freshmen, so I believe that leaves two scholarship spots that could be filled via the portal.
