Was playing Delaware State a crime?

Man, you talk about taking heat for everything. Michigan is not the only team that has a Delaware State on their schedule. Sorry for not wanting to play a top 3 team with our buy week when Florida is playing Troy and Michigan State hosts Montana State. This is a problem with the NCAA, not Michigan... Can't catch a break.

Watching the blocked punt was pretty fun but apart from that I started to feel pretty guilty near the end of the first half. It was also pretty tough that a few DSU guys got injured including that one guy who got carted off. I would just as rather we didn't schedule someone like DSU. I know that there is a risk in scheduling a "good bad team" like App. State, but I think I'd still rather we did that. I understand the need for the team to have a break and I also understand that it was fall break. If we're going to be a real good team like we think we ought to be, we shouldn't be scheduling total cupcakes mid season. I think EMU/Central/Western is about as low as we ought to go.

Don't listen to all of that crap. We had an off week and were able to schedule a D-II team to fill that hole. Would it be better if we had the week off? The Answer: No. Why? 1) None of our starters got injured 2) Benchwarmers were given significant playing time 3) I watched Michigan play a football game (and kick some serious ass) In the end, don't sweat the media-types who try to fill their 40 hour workweek with nonsense like "Michigan clubs baby seals, eats human babies". It's their job and Michigan is a big name school. You don't have to pay attention to it either.

As i mention below, after playing and murdering Deleware State our team went from getting 2 votes in the AP rankings last week, to getting 39 votes yesterday. Although there has been Michigan bashing, there has also been some recognition that a win is a win and you need to have some talent to win by nearly 60 points. And also, this past saturday let some seniors and juniors play that would have never seen the field otherwise. So, overall its a positive.

Normally, I would not like this game on the schedule. But, after 3-9, I'm all for a good blood bath game to get one in the win column. Now I want to see this team compete in the Big Ten and get at least 2 more big wins. Right now are best two wins are ND and a close loss to Iowa. We should be in every game remaining.

Honestly, the one sad part of the whole situation is that Del State had to forfit one of their regular games to get torn apart in the Big House. Otherwise, we got a great practice week before PSU, they got about $550,000 to play us, and they got to play Mich (a newly rebuilt team) in the big house... something that a Deleware State Hornet will remember forever. Lastly, although everyone says "who the hell is Del State" Mich went from getting 2 votes in last weeks rankings to 39 in this weeks. Obv, the win did something for our program and several voters have recognized this. Now just wait till be beat PSU. See you in the big house on saturday.

I didn't see that about the votes. That goes to show you how ridiculous the rankings are. As far as I'm concerned, that win over DSU did nothing for our program in terms of showing how good/bad we are. Maybe it did something confidence-wise...who knows.

UM has three rivalry games and games with Wisky, PSU, and Iowa this year. A middle-of-the-road team would not be criticized in the least for UM's schedule. The only conclusion I can draw is that, in the MSM, UM IS BEING PENALIZED FOR BEING GOOD. UM should never apologize for being good. If idiots in the MSM want to be lazy and criticize UM instead of writing compelling copy and unearthing good stories beneath the surface of a game like this, it reflects on their lack of talent and work ethic, not UM.

I never had a problem with the game being scheduled, but I kind of feel like a guy sitting around with survivor's guilt after watching that shellacking. I'll let you know how I'm doing post therapy. Give me a few months... Go Blue!

Should UM be playing teams like Delaware State? No. UM should be above this sneaky tactic of scheduling these type of teams. Was it good for UM to play such a team? Absolutely. As has been mentioned by many others, it gave many a chance to play and get experience. It goes to what RR has said about having exhibition games prior to the season. If UM comes out and beats PSU, then this game was brilliant. But if UM gets trounced by PSU, then this past game will only be used to showcase just how deficient UM is. And yes, this my opinion only.
