Walk-ons: Jordan Kovacs vs. Blair White(MSU)
Hey guys,
My dad sent me the link below that talks about how great of a story Blair White has to go from a no-playing-time walk-on to the leading receiver for MSU. Good story, sure. But I want my dad to see the Kovacs story for comparison (having to make the team twice, surgery, etc.) So here's the question:
Does anybody know where to find a well-written article documenting Jordan's full story?
Thanks for the help.
Here's the link for the article on White if interested. I know he goes to MSU, but it's still inspiring.

this is not behind the paywall. It's an interview with Kovacs so not really an article, but may be worth the read to you

Jordan has been getting a ton of press in the Toledo area. Played at local Clay High School. Great Michigan family. His dad was a walk on under Bo. I would love to see this kid put on 20 lbs and be a LB. He hits like a dump truck.

There have been several articles on Kovacs in the Det. News and Mlive.com in the past few weeks.... He is a great story however:
Jordan Kovacs is exactly the same player that I was at his age (though I was probably faster, had better coverage instincts and could hit harder), same size though.
He should not be a starter or even playing at Michigan, and I was not qualified either back in the day either. I was a MAC player and he should be too.
My point is that something is seriously wrong with what has happened with Michigan at the safety position. This needs to be corrected very quickly...somehow. Safetys have SUCKED at Michigan for far far far too long. Kovacs is a great kid and tries hard but he is not athletic enough to play at that position in the Big Ten. Period.

(I really just wanted this saved for posterity)

I am not sure how......sorry, I know how, just not sure why you would get negg'd for offering a differing opinion but I agree with you. Kovacs is a great story, an inspiring story, but the fact that he is actually playing safety for UM shows how dire the situation is at safety for us. That is not bagging of Kovacs, I love the kid but it is the reality of the situation. We need some serious help at safety for next year. Lets hope that one of the ones we have currently in the fold can step it up and make huge progress this offseason.

I'm pretty sure he got negged for the self-agrandizing post, not the comment that Kovacs isn't awesome. (I didn't neg him, I'm merely guessing why it happened)

Yes, I negged him for the utterly obvious jealousy that was running rampant through the post.

whatever... you are just the type of person who negs any criticism of the program and coaching...both of which are bad right now.
My reference to myself as a player is FAR from self-aggrandizing....(do you even understand the definition of what that term means)?
The reference is simply that I was very similar to Kovacs but not good enough by a long shot to play at Michigan. Neither is Kovacs.

I'm surprised you get negged as well. That is a fair analysis of Jordan, and I think we can all agree that he is limited athletically. Still a great story, but I agree with the earlier poster that Blair White has certainly been a more integral piece for MSU than Kouvacs, though that may have to do as much with the differences between offensive and defensive players.
Offensive players seem like they can fit into niches and be successful even if they have some physical limitations because you can gameplan on offense to hide these limitations far more effectively than on defense. We can all admit that Kouvacs is a solid tackler but misses that elite speed you need to play safety in the Big 10. Unfortunately, a safety without quality speed will get burned repeatedly, something we've seen all year. Maybe moving Kouvacs to SAM next year will help, but while the story is great, it shows just how poor safety play has been this year that Kouvacs is going to see significant playing time for the rest of the year.
OT - what school did you play for, if you don't mind me asking?

How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?... Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.

Well.. I might get negged for this but..
White is really an asset to his team... Kovacs.. jeez.. bless his heart, but I'd rather have someone else playing at safety..

Blair White is going to be all Big Ten. I wish he was on our team.
Kovacs will hopefully be a great player as well one day, but right now he ain't there.

They're 2 of the grittiest players with a lot of heart to ever grit the grit out of the gridiron.
