Waiting for the game - Good read on Michigan Daily
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/19/us/news-desert-ann-arbor-michigan.html
Student journalists across the country have stepped in to fill a void after more than 2,000 newspapers have closed or merged, leaving more than 1,300 communities without any local news coverage.
Yes football is mentioned with respect to he said she said past cases at Michigan. But the gist of the story points at the Daily as an example of student journalism stepping into the void created by technology. This brings the focus on Michigan - which has an endowed student paper.
I liked the picture of the Daily's office with the classic steam radiator - that is iconic in my memories of University buildings.
Something to read instead of raking the leaves. But leaves must be raked...doing that now. Go Blue!

I sold display advertising during the 87-88 and 88-89 school years. Met my wife there and ended up in a career related to marketing and advertising!

Great story. Thanks, Sextus Empiricus (you old cuss, you), for posting it.

Wonderful story.
As much as I embrace technology, I really miss the anticipation of getting the paper thrust onto the porch or the ability to pick up a copy at a newsstand on a random corner. I would actually find places to sit between classes on campus just so I could read the Ann Arbor News and the Detroit News (and of course, the Daily) uninterrupted.

Looks like the inside of the Student Publications Building hasn't changed much in the, uh, almost two decades since I worked in there...
