Both Shea and Dylan can win games for Michigan. But when push comes to shove I'll take Dylan.
Stafford's backup is also better, and the Wings #2 goalie will win the Stanley Cup.
BTW, who is Stafford's backup? I'm sure he'll be a household name soon, though...
Why do Michigan fans get so upset if someone mentions the starting QB could get beat out? Any other position there can be discussion about a starter loosing their job but bring up QB and people loose their mind. By next year Dylan more then likely will be the starter and it’s because he’s damn good and why he was recruited and coached up and then you will know him well
If Dylan does start this year that means he’s the best QB at Michigan right now and isn’t that what’s best for the program. I will cheer my ass off for all the starters and subs and hope we win every game. Just can never understand why people won’t even have a conversation about the QB position like it’s blasphomy to even suggest it

Mostly because it's not connected to reality. People like to fantasize that there's one magical change that Harbaugh could make that will fix everything, and that's often putting in the backup quarterback. At one point in 2017 John O'Korn was the program savior and putting him in would solve everything. How well did that work out?
I think McCaffrey is going to be an excellent starter--when he gets the opportunity. I'm just not convinced that it's going to happen this year unless Patterson gets hurt or struggles (and I'm not concerned that he'll struggle at this point).
If McCaffrey wins the job, though, great.

Were you reading the blog between the Florida game until Speight was hurt against Purdue? I'm exaggerating, but not by much. There's a big section of any fan base that fantasizes about what the backup QB will do.
I'm ashamed to admit that after the Purdue game I texted a friend using the words "Okorn Era Begins Now".
And I was right. It was an era. I suppose.

Until we have an offensive line that can protect, Patterson is the clear #1
MacCaffrey is fast in his own regard, but so far it doesn’t look like he can evade a blown protection like Shea can (MacCaffrey is also like 6’5”, long limbs and all), Shea and Karan were dancing in the backfield all last season.
Football is a team sport (remember that my neoliberal and libretarian friends!), and if the offense can keep a drive alive longer with Shea—because blown protections are a given—despite DMac being an prototypically “better” QB, then Shea will be the starter.
You go with what works, not with what fits the “ideal model” (remind your local economist today!)
O'Korn was good at evading blown coverage as well. Fans like to dismiss it as happy feet, but he would have been seriously injured if he didn't have this skill.
Patterson not only can scramble he can throw while running on a dime, and he can get yards with his feet. McCaffrey is also awesome, he just needs to be reminded on how not to sacrifice himself.

Man...has to be at least a decade since we felt confident in a competent back up at QB. Actually, I can't remember the last time? Maybe when Denard was the backup?
That's an interesting drill, like they're practicing for a QB having to catch the ball. The circus throw was on the money, too...
It's a great drill, throwing across the body at a moving target,.. exactly what they're taught not to do. Of course in wild scramble, it's essential to be able to make such pooch plays.
Having been to multiple UM summer football camps (including Harbaugh's Aerial Assault QB camp) I've never seen this drill. Maybe it's Ben McDaniel's drill who is in the endzone. Doesn't matter who came up with it ...I like it.
I can envision a scenario in which the OL caves, Shea runs for his life, and tosses a pass behind his back to avoid being sacked for the 8th time against a team with a mediocre defense.

This drill is a staple among the Darin Slack / Dub Maddox crowd for sprint / boot and other throws on the run.
Hmmm, Dub Maddox--think I saw them open for Major Lazer once.
Every time I watch Joe Milton he doesn't seem fluid.
On the other hand, Cade McNamara seems jack be nimble jack be quick. He is instant excitement.
I'm really, really looking forward to Shea Patterson lighting up the stats. I'm wondering when his first 300 yard game will be. Probably in game one against Middle Tennessee. :-)
Braver people than I in that drill, to be sure. Running in semicircles like that would have me disoriented after a time, but then that's why I am not out there. That, and I exhausted my eligibility 20 years ago.....and I would suck....and....OK, larger point being it was a cool drill.
I'm not expecting behind the back passes, but if Gattis dials up some flea flicker type shit and other trick plays most games....
... Well, imagine what good feelings feel like. It's like that.
