UTD standings if B1G East 3 way tie

Submitted by whidbeywolverine on October 8th, 2023 at 12:17 PM

Assumption: B1G East champion gets in playoff with one loss and win in CCG.

Three Way Tiebreaker: Conference Wins of Three  Divisional Opponents

Current Standings:

OSU (Minn,Wisc,Purdue): 4

UofM (Minn,Neb,Purdue): 3

PSU (Illinois,Iowa,NW): 3

Rooting interests for this weekend (caveat that OSU and PSU losses are awesome but don’t apply here)

Maryland to beat Illinois in College Park

Iowa to beat Wisconsin in Madison

(I know, I know, just keep winning and beat Penn State, but want to keep this avenue open for The Game!)

Go Blue!!

I’d rather not pin my hopes on the middling bottom feeders of the big. So let’s just run the table. A few weeks ago I was concerned that our lines, more so O line was a liability. Now I’ve come to the conclusion that the results would be similar regardless of who we play. Stop the run, we’re gonna pass. Take away the underneath and we’ll go deep. Then when the 2nd half rolls around, we’re gonna take your will to even wanna be on the field.

Thank you for sharing this. Of course, every fan would rather avoid this by winning out, but is good to know what our other avenues are in case that doesn't happen. Look at Ohio State last year...they got stomped in The Game & backed into the playoffs only because of USC blowing the Pac-12 championship, yet they came within a bad FG snap of beating UGA.

What about if Indiana, OSU, Maryland, PSU and Michigan all finish in a 5-way tie at 7-2, all going 2-2 against each other and winning all their other conference games?  What then?

(this is still possible!)

The rooting interest for Iowa vs Wisconsin is intriguing.

While Wisconsin losing would decrease Ohio State's tiebreak chances, it increases Penn State's via Iowa winning.

The more important factor, IMO, is that Wisconsin losing to Iowa also likely means they've got no chance vs Ohio State. We want Wisconsin to be good enough to beat Ohio State in Madison.

Best scenario is probably for Wisconsin to look really good, but lose because of Iowa things.
