I got back from the game a little while ago...that one was pretty crazy. For anyone who didn't see it, here are the cliff's notes: 1) We scored 19 points in the first half and were down 20. Savannah State was pressing hard with their D, contesting inbounds, etc, and it definitely rattled the team a bit. Manny Harris had a lot of turnovers and we had some lengthy periods with no scoring. 2) We came out and scored the first 15 points of the half. Savannah State finally got a basket after about 7 mins. From there it was pretty tight the rest of the game as we battled back those last few points. 3) The game is tied, 15 seconds left, Savannah State has possession in our end and takes a timeout to plan their final play to end the game. Michigan has 2 fouls to give, which we use, leaving about 3 seconds on the clock. Here's where it starts to get completely fucking crazy. Zack Harris steals the inbound pass and lopes down the court for the slam with about half a second left. As the buzzer sounds the dunk pops back out...game still tied, OT. Chrisler is totally stunned at this point. 4) In OT we got totally raped by a few calls by the refs, including an out of bounds ball that replay clearly showed should have gone our way. Instead Savannah State retains possession and gets a score. 5) Finally at the end of OT we are up by 2, Savannah State seems to have final possession. They manage to score with 5 seconds left. But we in bound, pass down the court and DeShawn Sims hits a shot with the buzzer sounding to win the game. It was killer, really nice to see this team managing to win these close ones this year. I don't know if we should have had so much trouble with Savannah State, but they're also 4-1 so I guess they're not helpless.

Savannah State played a pretty flawless first half. At one point, they were 12-15fg, not much you can do when the other team is shooting that high a percentage. Except for the first 10 minutes of the second half, they shot the ball incredibly well. I also felt that the officiating was the worst I've seen in any sport since the Steelers-Seahawks SB. Savannah State should have been called for two clock violations in the first half that they didn't, they also got a lucky desperation 3 even though the shot clock had expired in the second half. In the first half, I counted at least 4 times when a Michigan player got hacked or blocked driving the lane with no calls. It was just simply horrific officiating. Last year, it's the type of game where they would've thrown the towel in after halftime. That they never gave up and actually did come back, even against a team they should've blown out, is a good sign.

I saw most of the end of regulation and overtime via the BTN.com broadcast, but was more listening than watching since I was in and out of the room. Anyways, after some bad call, the announcers were RAGGING on the referees, literally saying things like they're horrible, they have no business being officials at this level and they wouldn't hire them to mow their lawn and stuff like that. I was like, "WHOA!" It's not often you hear announcers just totally go off on the officiating, but these guys certainly didn't hold back this afternoon!
