UM Alumni - NFL Cuts

Submitted by jtmc33 on August 28th, 2023 at 11:14 AM

NFL cuts started last week but are continuing as teams go from @90 down to the regular season 53-man roster.  UM players recently cut include:

Carlo Kemp - LB - Chargers

Daylan Baldwin - WR - Browns (due to injury)

Donavan Jeter - DT - Cut by Bears last week; picked up by Giants and then cut

Nick Eubanks - TE - Colts

Jalen Mayfiend - OL - Falcons (this one is a surprise to me - former draft pick and part-time starter)

The Browns cut Michael Dwumfour (DT) but the Titans picked him up

Oliver Martin still hanging on with the Jaguars. I think he's had more catches in the preseason with them than he did in his entire college career with three Big Ten teams. He'll likely be cut this week, but good for him.

I was actually just thinking about this yesterday, but if there's a mutual parting of ways or if Michigan cuts ties with a kid...the hit rate on those kids is very, very low. In other words, if wide receiver commitment X is passed over by Michigan's staff, then you can *almost* guarantee that kid is not going to pan out wherever he ends up.

I realize I wasn't clear, but I was actually talking about commitments, not players. So if Michigan parts ways with a commit or if there's a "mutual breakup," that usually signifies something. There are guys like Gareon Conley, who decommitted from Michigan in favor of a better/equal opportunity at Ohio State, and that worked out just fine for him (getting to the NFL, at least). But then there are guys like Denzel Ward and Denver Warren and Carter Dunaway and Chase Lasater and Kiante Enis and Sir Patrick Scott...

(If you're asking "who?" at this point, that's my point.)

here's one:

Taco Charlton, a Cowboys' first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, was released from IR with an injury settlement this afternoon. NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco was among the first to report the move.

Charlton, 28, signed with San Francisco on a one-year deal this offseason. He was placed on injured reserve earlier this month.
