Today's random questions (ft. hockey nostalgia)

Submitted by Hensons Mobile… on April 21st, 2020 at 8:52 AM

1) Hokier Hokeism: Not saying "Ohio State" or not wearing red?

2) Guiltier pleasure: M00N or Illinois 2010?

3) Bring back: The full C-Ya chant or the old CCHA?

4) Would you rather: Permanently keep Maizen or the Pitbull Banner?

5) More savage: Chase Winovich tells Graham Couch to "Hold this L" or Devin Bush Landscaping services Spartan Stadium turf?

My answers:

1) To me, both are dumb but I'm more annoyed that "Ohio" caught on.

2) Illinois highlights take too long. Give me M00N.

3) Games aren't even on TV anymore. We should totally have the C-Ya chant.

4) TBH, neither bother me that much. Maizen is more interesting.

5) The couch burn.

3) CCHA - 100 percent. The "games aren't even on tv anymore" is a direct result of the B1G conference's existence. I don't care about the full cheer being back because, even if it were back, Yost isn't going back to what it was pre-renovation.

yeah, Yost is very nice looking now, but part of what made Yost what it was, was the dark old building with wooden bleachers. The student section used to be right on the glass and now with the wheelchair seating there you've pushed them well off the ice. I always assumed they put that seating there on purpose (as opposed to other portions of the arena) in part to quell the student section

The one part of this list that stands above all the rest to me is the C-Ya cheer.  Swearing is almost unavoidable in hockey culture -- hardly a gentleman's game. Yost was among the most intimidating venues in all of college hockey back then -- Yost's heyday was the 90s.  I say bring that back.

Loved the CCHA, but the cheer was so special, and so unique to Michigan Hockey.

1. Hokier? His refusal to say "Ohio State." I barely ever wear green and sports is part of the reason.

2. Guiltier? M00N. More enjoyable? Illinois.

3. I hate the full C-YA chant. Old CCHA, except keep visiting Minnesota after New Year's day so I can attend some games.

4. This question reminds me of the old website WWWF Grudge Match, which once pitted Barney the Purple Dinosaur against Wesley Crusher in a chainsaw match and asked people to vote for the "winner." (It's a fun bit of 90's web nostalgia if you poke around the site). Hard to choose what you dislike more, though (The banner, which always pops up, is Wesley; Maizen is Barney the Purple Dinosaur). For that matchup, they provided a rare and privileged third option: Both mangled and killed.

I won't tell you what I voted for.

5. Bush was great, of course. But this is one of the greatest moments in sports twitter history.

1.  don't wear red.  everyone forgets its 'ohio' stadium, says 'ohio' on their little gold panties, they spell 'ohio' in their attempt at cursive writing, and their fight song says 'ohio'.

2.  illinois 2010.  i actually loved that game.  shame....

3.  i played in the old CCHA and liked it.  so i'll pick that one.

4.  pitbull banner was a dishonor to the blog and the fans.  maizen is a dishonor to him/herself.  i'll go with 'keep maizen', especially at $5 a pop for the ovelords.

5.  toughest one of the group. i'll go with devin's landscaping.  seems more iconic and well known.  loved chase's 'hold the L' line though.

3) Is the CYA chant gone? Is this another egregious overstep by Whitmer???? I confess I haven't been to Yost in 3-5 years.

Either way, viva la CCHA. Playing Minnesota and Wisconsin is boring. Only thing that would make the Big Ten cooler is some new blood like Illinois or Iowa

and 5) 'Hold this L' is an all time body slam that Graham Couch will never recover from. People will be tweeting that at him 10 years from now
