THERE ARE (maybe)...

...days until Herman Everhardus (HB 1931-1933) sees the weirdest, but perhaps the most memorable Michigan Football season of all time.

Hello everyone. It's great to finally be back.

It's been quite the strange summer, and quite the strange offseason to understate it as much as possible. I don't think I've ever revealed my age on here, but I think the accomplishment that has made this offseason still be somewhat special for me warrants it: After 18 years of hard work, bleeding Maize and Blue, and yes, many of them even reading and posting on MGoBlog, I can finally (officially) call myself a Wolverine. I will be a member of the University of Michigan's Class of 2024, attending the new Sport Management Immersion program starting January 2021. I thought last year would be my final time experiencing Michigan Football in the way I have my whole life (as a fan who is not a student yet), but I guess there will be one more year of that – aside from the differences in this season that will impact everybody.

Long story short, this year's countdown comes on very interesting and yes, uncertain, circumstances. My hope is that it (as always, season ultimately occurring or no) gives you a fun way to freshen up your Michigan Football Historian brain, but most importantly that it gives you some comforting consistency in a time where life brings less of that than ever.

If you don't enjoy these "annoying" posts and their glances into Michigan Football history as we get prepared for the upcoming season (I know you guys are still out there), I encourage you to kindly not click on them, and to use the time you would to write a snapping comment (lol) to keep you and yours happy and healthy in your own way, keeping the space positive for those who enjoy it (I know you guys are still out there too). You have been warned and acknowledged before this annual spam begins!

Now that's all out of the way, let's have a real good time.

Go Blue!

These posts still come with awesome videos, and I have no idea why but this gem just feels like the perfect way to start this year...

Thanks Wolverine Devotee, as always. Happy 25th to you! Doubt you remember me, but we met MurderWolf (and I met you) at about the same time at Wisconsin 2018 College GameDay. I can confirm that WD is not the man behind the mask. However, we have often ignored what name our other-dimension mascot chose to use on his back...

What kind of jerk would be annoyed by historical numerology? This is fun and interesting and I look forward to it every year. Congrats on your imminent student status and let's hope against hope that we can have safe football in however many days… there are until we get it!

It's strange.

Even the simple pleasures of life are different, like the complicated process of something as simple as getting a fountain drink and a snack from a convenience store.

There are new maneuvers, like the back-step when someone is closer than six feet, or the pivot when you realize you've left your mask in the car. We're really quick at bypassing facial recognition on our phones as we wait in line outside to get in the store/office/restaurant.

And there's a renewed appreciation for nature, for the outdoors. For hikes and picnics away from the world.

A new appreciation for life without checking the scores.

But the leaves will change soon, and you know what that's supposed to mean.

Can it be the same? Can we change? Can we possibly get excited?

Perhaps there will be some normalcy for three hours on Saturdays again. Complains of playcalling and pass-catching and recruiting. Brilliant athleticism. Moments of triumph, moments of despair.

But in front of empty seats, and with players missing. Cancellations and rescheduling. The Game is in... October?

There is no calm oasis in the sea of chaos.

Football is coming. Maybe.

Congratulations, JWG Wolverine, on the great news you've shared of your future enrollment at Michigan. Wishing you all the best as you prepare to begin your college student career!

TBH, if asked, I would have guessed you were at least a decade older than the age you actually are.

And even though I highly doubt that we'll even have a football season this fall, I'll be looking forward to the season countdown each day of the coming month.
