There are...
...days until the ghost of Willis Ward (End 1932-1934) sees the Michigan Football program begin its 142nd season.
In place of the usual video/ticket stub, I'm gonna echo the encouragement for everyone to delve into the work of Dr. John Behee – specifically, his book on black athletes at Michigan for which Mr. Ward wrote a foreword:
Double thanks.
Thank you for honoring Ward.
Thank you for the tip on John Behee's book on black athletes at Michigan.
[edit]
Triple thanks, for honoring Ward, for the tip on Behee's book, and for the link, allowing a look at the book.
You're doing terrific work, JWG.
Ward was also, as I recall, the first African-American chairman of the Michigan Public Service Commission, which is a body very near and dear to my daily work, as well as a Wayne County probate judge. He was rather accomplished outside of his athletic career as well.
61 days until Willis Ward watches his beloved program descend into the Shit Abyss. . .
Considering that Ward's final season in 1934 was one in which Michigan went 1-7, got shut out five times, and scored a grand total of 21 points all season, it's somewhat ironic that you use him to criticize Harbaugh.
Ironic, or apropos?
who said anything about harbaugh?
I'm talking about the entire program.
The inability to compete with top ranked programs.
The ridiculous pricing of ann arbor on game day (to watch MSU beat us on our own field)
the shitty recruiting,
the holier-than-thou woke fan base.
And yeah, 1934 Michigan goes 1-7 BUT. . .
Willis Ward managed to beat OSU the year before in 1933. He won a national championship. Which of course meant a big ten championship. Something that the program hasn't done legitimately since 2004. WHEN THE INCOMING FRESHMAN WERE FUCKING BORN!!!!!!!
How's that for irony?
Days until Juwan unveils his most anticipated line-up and season yet. *Bonus* it will include Devante Jones!
