Before you guys neg me, you should know me well enough at this point to know that I wouldn't completely disclude a prominent player like this.

He's one of my favorites of all time, and despite the dark era of Michigan Football history he comes from, he never fails to make me smile with his unforgettable explosive ability. It's probably some of the most fun player highlights to watch to get you excited for the season.

And of course, MGoBlog wouldn't be the same without him.

We all still love you Denard!!

The reason why I chose Navarre though is simple. We need a game like this in our lives again.

I am a huge John Navarre fan!!! So thank you for putting him up there. Not taking away from Denard. But I didn’t know him like I did John.

Will always remember the ongoing joke about the bobble head of John Navarre getting recalled bc his head didn’t move. And will also remember John Navarre telling me that joke.

Great guy. Great Michigan Man! Go Blue!!

Ha. That picture of Navarre looks fake. I remember that game. My favorite part was after each 4th quarter run, Perry would take forever to get off the ground. I was worried that he was injured but no. He just kept pummeling them. Agreed, let’s have another one like that one this year.

It was a Friday night game, which was great for me as a 13 year old to be able to watch a night game, at home alone, without my family interrupting. The most amazing comeback, and kept Michigan undefeated at the Metrodome.

Also, it was moved to accommodate a potential Twins playoff game but IIRC they ended up missing the playoffs anyway. So it was played Friday night for no reason, really.

Great game...really wish the Braylon bomb wasn't called back for holding to exert maximum pain.  UM dominated that game and was clearly the superior team...final score did not reflect the extent of domination.

I'm calling it now...I think we blow their doors off this year.  I thought we would win in 2016 as well...that was the first time in the late Tressel/Meyer era that I truly felt we had the better team.  I still believe we were robbed in 2016 as well as shooting ourselves in the foot, and sometimes the better team does not win.

Besides that, there were also a bunch of coin-flip games that haven't gone our way in the past 20 years.  Basically, when OSU is the better, they win, and often convincingly.  When teams are even or play even on the field, OSU has won (OT game, 2006 game of the century, missed 2 point conversion game, etc).  And in the years we have been better, Fickell year and 2016, we managed to only win 1 of the games.

TLDR - We lose when we're expected to, we lose the 50-50 games, and got screwed in 2016.

That said...and yes, you can throw tomatoes at me in November if I am wrong, I think we not only win this year, but send a statement like in 2003 - It won't be close, and it will turn the tide on the rivalry and recruiting going forward.

I’m not so sure.  Meyer was undefeated against us and a loss this year would make Day winless against us as HC.  He certainly wouldn’t have the aura of invincibility that Meyer had, and especially if it is their second or third loss, some doubt could creep in as the whether Day was the right guy.

Just ask Harbaugh about people blowing rivalry losses way out of proportion.

The last QB to beat a good OSU team....in two-thousand-fucking-three. Astonishing it has been that long.

I get the Denard love.  He was the best thing to happen during a very tough time.  That said, it is again disappointing to watch highlight footage that consists mostly of games early in the season or against gimme opponents that we struggled to beat.  I forgot about that UMass game... and UConn...  Has everyone forgotten the fact that every time he went to throw, every heart in the stadium stopped?  And man, was he injured a lot.  He took a hell of a beating for those runs.  I am still eagerly looking forward to years from now when these kinds of highlights show repeated plays against MSU, PSU, OSU, and bowl opponents...

I envy your ability to find enjoyment in the small flashes of the miraculous in what was a cold and dark time.  For example, where you liken him to the Heisman, I see him fleeing for his life after he is again caught out in the open.  He's not stiff-arming a safety as he runs down the line or a linebacker as he breaks into the secondary, he's trying to avoid not be broken in half by a DT.

Totally agree with you and hope and pray that we can have some Denard type players (both in explosive skill on the field and humility off the field) in this new, more successful generation of UM football under Harbaugh.

So basically have guys like Desmond and Woodson again, that transcend the sport and put UM in the spotlight for Heisman's and CFB playoffs. ....

Looking at you Shea, Dax, McCaffrey, Charbonette.  :)))

Lets have some superstars and win while we're at it!

John Navarre.  Last QB to lead Michigan to victories over Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Ohio State in a single season AND win an outright Big 10 title.  Respect.
