There are...
...days until Dave Gallagher (DT 1970-1973) enjoys his Wolverines play the Pirates of East Carolina to start the 144th season in program history on the first Saturday in September at Michigan Stadium!

Go Blue.
Gonna do a little bit of a two-parter for today's video content. First, though always overshadowed by the bitterest circumstance in Michigan Football history, #71's senior team was an all-time best and still deserves some positive shine. Here's them winning their Battle for the Little Brown Jug in Minneapolis...
Secondly, speaking of #71 — here's a breakdown of his involvement in preventing a sequel to the most (I guess now second-most) infamous act of outside-of-playing-time disrespect within the confines of the Big House:

Enjoy!
Wild. Kudos to Dave Gallagher.
Thanks for posting.
Manufactured by Selco Geneve, the watch featured today was given to the Wolverines who made the trip to Tampa for the 1997 Outback Bowl:
I bet the watches (and rings) from the following year were pretty slick.
Dave was a remarkable player in the middle of the defensive line. Bo liked his nose tackle small and Dave suited him fine. He was a consensus All-American his senior year at 6'4" and 250 pounds. That worked 50 years ago, hard to see it working today.
50 yrs ago a 6' 4" 250 lb nose was massive.
for reference, i can still hear keith jackson's comment about the 1980 georgia peach bowl O-line being 'big dogs' because they averaged 250 lbs.
Great post JWG!
I was at the 1977 OSU game; I had no idea Gallagher was the one who ended Woody's nonsense with the banner.
I watched the video of the 1973 Minnesota game above; it was a different time...
- No passes, ZERO, thrown in the first half.
- Minnesota tried a pass in the last minute of the half, but the result was a 15 yd sack
- Michigan's first pass came in the 3rd quarter, after we were up 24-0 and in Gopher territory
- Minnesota ran eight-man offensive front throughout the game, even when they were way behind
- Ironically, the Gophers only score was on a 36 yd halfback pass.
