Thank You To This Team
First and foremost, I want to thank this basketball team for all they have done. It has been extremely fun watching them on the Big Ten title run and their run through the tournament.
I wanted to share a little personal story. My dad was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and had his first round of chemo today. Watching this team has brought joy and happiness in an otherwise tough time to myself and my dad. We were able to make the trip in 2013 to Atlanta to witness them fall (unjustifiably) just short in the National Championship. We were hoping to make it to San Antonio, but health problems did not allow that.
Also, THANK YOU to anyone who has donated any money or done anything to help cure cancer. Keep doing it, because you never know when it will effect you or someone you love. FUCK CANCER.
On the last note, LETS GO GET THEM TONIGHT. Win or lose, THANK YOU TO THIS TEAM, but lets hang one in the rafters!!
Fuck Cancer. Good to hear you were able to share this moment with him and here's to hoping for the ending it deserves.
Sorry about your Dad. Hope the chemo goes well and your dad beats the lymphoma. I salute your strong bond with him and I hope you enjoy every minute with him. I suspect he draws strength from his bond with you.
Been a great ride with this team this year, and I think most here are thankful for the great chemistry and run. National championship game says it all about the season, and hope they manage to pull it off tonight, and wish you peace and strength as well.
my parents chipped in a healthy sum in chemo and treatment costs to help cure mine.
Fuck cancer.
Here is my story about Pops.
My dad is 70 years old a Vietnam Veteran, about 2 years ago I had to have have my dad move in with my family because he was unable to take care of himself do his health conditions. This past August his uncharacteristic behavior was out of control, I was worried about his safety of himself and others. I sat down with my dad several times months prior to August and discussed with him my concern with his hygiene, memory, paranoid behavior and told him he needed to be checked for dementia and Altimeters. Off course he didn’t listen. I had to get an IVC on him to get him involuntary committed to the hospital. One of the hardest things I ever had to do. The Doctors decided to send him to a behavioral healthy clinic to be evaluated. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with Frontal Impulse Dementia and things for him have never been the same.
I want to thank the team too about their success this year too. This is first time in a while I can a have somewhat a normal conversation with my dad like we use too.
Living with someone you care so much about with dementia is horrible but the last couple months we can at least talk about UofM basketball and the teams success. I don’t know how much longer he will live but if UofM wins it would bring so much joy for Pops and all of UofM fans and alumni.
Thank you guys. Prayers go back to any of you or your family dealing with the same issues.
The worst thing about tonight is that this is the last time we will see this team compete. No matter what happens, it has been a pleasure watching them. Personally, they have made basketball enjoyable for me again which has not been an easy feat.
Great post. Thoughts and prayers to your family and your father. I hope this thread can be followed up with a big Michigan victory!
Best wishes to your dad and your family. Win or lose tonight, may your dad win this battle with cancer and may all of you grow through this trial.
