Stat Line, Multiple Choice Game

Submitted by jamiemac on

Hey all!  Check out these stat lines from quarterbacks and rank them from worst to first. You'll recognize Threet's from yesterday as "A" and if you dont want to rank them compare them to his. These are all actual stat lines. I will reveal them later, but trust me I would not throw up comparable unless they were performed against equal competition and an equal setting. This might prove to be interesting, here goes:

A.) 17-23, 173 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

B.) 25-40, 240 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

C.) 19-42, 230 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

D.) 23-36, 267 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

That stands out for sure as does how many more attempts was needed by the other guys to get their yard advantage over him.

One thing about my "equal setting" comment. That was meant to describe the venue and type of crowd it was up against. Stuff like that. I was not even thinking about the weather, for some reason. The other three selections took place on sunny, element free days.

Since its grabbed a few people's attention, I will reveal. I'm working on a diary (gimme a day or two) with these stats and other facts, so consider this a sneak preview of sorts.  Here goes:

A.) Steven Threet's line at South Bend, 2008. First road start. Second start of his career.

B.) Chad Henne's line at South Bend, 2004. First road start. Second start of his career.

C.) John Navarre's line at South Bend, 2002. Eighth road start of career. Nineteenth start of his career.

D.) Tom Brady line at South Bend, 1998. First road start and career start.

it would be nice if you could find the defensive stats national rankings for each of these Notre Dame defenses.  More context is always better.  BTW, I'm thinking of doing some of Chad's 2004 starts in a UFR type thing.

Great multiple choice.  I never thought you might be comparing Threet to other UM greats.  Those numbers are pretty shocking.  Perhaps most shocking?  Navarre's numbers in his 19th start.  Jesshhh.  That guy really turned it around and ended up being very good.

But, also need to agree with Colin.  What kind of defenses were those?  ND was quite better in those days.

I'm glad the initial reactions to the multiple choice have been positive.....like I said I am working on a larger diary with these and other facts/stats, we'll see how that turns out.

I will certainly take the suggestion relative to the defensive numbers. However, I am not sure how much better ND was in those days. In digging around for the 1998 box score, I chuckled a little in reading the game wraps about how big a win it was for ND, a year after their worst season in program history.

I chuckled a little......then I cried......then I drank.
