Start of Bowl Season Open Thread/New Mexico/Potato/New Orleans Bowl
We'll see how it goes. If there's a lot of interest, or a lot of other posts shoving it down the front page, we can do one for each bowl. If it's a slow day, this can take care of all 3 bowl games today. It's not like it's the Rose Bowl or anything today. Though I am anxious to see the offense of Temple. I hear their OC is pretty good. And SDS later should look familiar. Ohio/Utah ST? Yeah, I got nothing. But that doesn't have to matter in these threads. It's for the fun, the love of college football. And werid JHackney pictures. So come one, come all, come Blue Dragon, and let's enjoy the cheesy greatness/awfulness of the bowl season.
Edit: We've had 3 new threads since kickoff, and 10 still below it on the front page. I'm not bumping stuff for a new thread for each of these bowls. Someone might on New Year's Day or something. If a mod wants separate threads for these, be my guest, just seems a waste of space. If something groundbreaking happens that bumps this off the front page, we probably won't care about the bowls anymore anyway.
First game going well..I gave the points. We'll see about Utah State and SDS later.

Anyone else watching Thursday Night Football on saturday night? Cowboys taking it to the Bucs.

Just assumed it was on tomorrow.

Well, giving the -6.5 is looking pretty good about now.

Bucs have been gotten worse as the year has gone on.

The Aztec defense can't stop a corpse right now.
EDIT: Apparently, they can get a pick when it matters though. It's a delicate balance.

I know you really care. For spme reason, after a few drinks, this seems important.

You'll be 3-0 on the day along with 30,000 other people. Some people apparently had the strategy of putting the mid-major games as the highest confidence, which I was going to do but I didn't save my bracket. I had Temple as 11 and Ohio as 17. SDSU as 10. Hopefully the SDSU O-line decides to actually play and then they'll dominate.

...so if they hit a lucky streak in the early games they have a chance to get mentioned on sportscenter when they list the leaders. First place early on will be whichever person using the 35-34-33... strategy has the longest winning streak to open.

Dude, who are the 13 year-olds ESPN hired to broadcast this game? Were the real housewives not available?
December 17th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
Yikes! No looking so good for SDSU.

First they gave up two touchdowns in the last 2:12 to lose to the defending national champions, then in week 3 they gave up a tying TD and 2-pt conversion in the last minute of regulation and lost in OT, then in week 4 BYU went 96 yards in the last three minutes to beat them. And then this today. They were ahead at the beginning of the 4th quarter in every one of their six losses.
They came from way behind in two of their wins and won a third on a last minute TD, though, so I guess it could have been worse....

It's actually getting pretty interesting.

had 2 great catches. Some of the best I've seen all season.

I just want to leave with saying that Lindley has some terrible receivers. He's placing the ball right in their hands and they're just straight up dropping them.

Hoke didn't bring Rocky Long with him. That D is atrocious.
December 18th, 2011 at 12:52 AM ^
They're giving the game away.
December 18th, 2011 at 12:46 AM ^
But the last two have been pretty exciting.

is a pretty good way to end the first day of the bowl season. I hope most of the lower tier bowl games are at least exciting like this.

What the hell is "illegal spinning"?
December 18th, 2011 at 1:00 AM ^
Uh, I mean, that's what I've heard...
December 18th, 2011 at 12:57 AM ^
Un-be-lieve-able.
GASDASDFHSDFKSLDf wtf is illegal spinning? I didn't see ANYBODY jump offsides on the SDSU D-line.
December 18th, 2011 at 12:57 AM ^
People say there are too many meaningless bowls. Maybe that's true, or maybe not. But damn some of these early games sure do produce some thrilling finishes.
December 18th, 2011 at 12:58 AM ^
There go 15 MGoPool points :(
Points aside, that was a GREAT game!

Who would have thought a kid from a no-name school could nail a 50 yarder to win the game and we can't even make a 40 yarder regularly
December 18th, 2011 at 1:10 AM ^
I haven't been able to find anywhere on the internet a 5 yard penalty of anything sounding remotely like "illegal skimming"... I have no clue what happened.
EDIT: The penalty came because one of the SDSU D-linemen was calling out the snap count illegally. Terrible way to lose a game.
