Sorry, another Dorsey question

Submitted by Dan Man on

First, I assume that MSC was the final word on Dorsey because I assume something this important would find its way to her desk.  Agree?  If so, do you think that Brandon had RichRod's back and was pushing MSC to let Dorsey in, and MSC just shot it down?  Or do you think that, once Brandon became aware of the details of Dorsey's academics (maybe some of the LifeSkills stuff), he just deferred to Admissions, leaving RichRod hanging?  I guess the gist of my question is whether Dorsey's admission was argument between RichRod and UM policies in general, or between the athletic department and Mary Sue Coleman/the Admissions Office?  I'm curious to hear what people think about this...

I would highly doubt that MSC has anything to do with this. She has way more important things to think about.

Like how to get ND in so we don't have to go to 16 teams.

Maybe you're right - I don't know - but I'd be surprised if Dave Brandon thought it was important for the team to get this kid, he wouldn't go as high in command as he could go to finesse Dorsey through admissions.  Given the state of the football team and the particular position of this player, losing him could hurt the progam, which could hurt $$$.

It might be a meeting between Brandon and the head of admissions, but Presidents have too much on their plates to be settling inter-department quarrels. With the news about the APR, I'm not the least bit surprised that the head of admissions was able to win the battle.

i wish we could avoid asking questions not one person on this board is qualified, or knowledgeable, enough to answer. it just leads to muck raking and people talking out of their ass and in 3 weeks ends up being "credible information" because it was written on a message board.

First, I assume that MSC was the final word on Dorsey because I assume something this important would find its way to her desk.

Because the acceptance of one member of the class of 2014, which will have over 6,000 kids in it, is of vital importance to her duties as President of the entire fucking University.

Nice hyperbole, Chitown - very unlike you.  I did not say anything was "vital."  However, I'd hope that Dave Brandon would realize how important a blue chip corner could be for this team in this crucial season.

Maybe MSC never looked at this.  I don't think it's ridiculous to ask whether Brandon might dial up MSC in the face of a spat between RichRod and admissions.

i doubt this goes to MSC.  if anything, she would want to stay out of this situation to avoid the look of improprieity.
