Softball wins 5th straight, B1G play begins Friday

#19 Michigan took on EMU this afternoon in the final game before B1G play begins.

The second midweek MAC opponent of the week, Michigan wasted no time again getting a lead.

A Blanco K and double play started the game, and then Natalie Peters hit a leadoff inside-the-park HR for her first homer of her career to give Michigan a 1-0 lead.

In the 3rd, after 2 RBIs by Faith Canfield and Kelly Christner, Tera Blanco hit a 3-run blast to make it 6-0 Michigan after 3 innings.

Michigan would not be able to make it a run rule game, though. EMU responded with two runs of their own in the next frame. But in the bottom of the 4th, Aidan Falk would jack a 2-run double to the wall to make it 8-2.

Megan Betsa would relieve Blanco after the 4th inning. Betsa and Blanco combined for 10 Ks today.

Michigan would hang on and beat EMU by that final score of 8-2.

Michigan is now 19-7-1 and will begin B1G play this weekend.

Michigan hosts Penn State at Alumni Field this weekend for a 3-game series starting on Friday at 4pm.

It's been a rough non-conference schedule for sure, but this team still has it in them to compete for the Big Ten.  I hope they're able to put those struggles behind them & hit the next gear for league play.

Absolutely not.

Hosting a regional? Yes.

Hosting a Super Regional might be out the door unless we lose only one or two games the rest of the regular season. Just not a lot of opportunities for wins over ranked teams.

Wisconsin has played no one. Michigan has at least beaten some ranked teams.

It's not impossible to destroy everyone and win the B1G again.

As of now, I'd say absolutely yes.  They're top 10 in both polls, they've won multiple Big Ten Tournaments in recent years, have a senior ace who can also hit pretty dang well, and their only losses on the season have been in Washington, against #6/#5 Washington.  We can definitely top them, but it's going to be a battle.
