So We Beat On

Submitted by Winchester Wolverine on

As I write this, fighting back the urge to puke from last night's drinking binder, from the corner of my eye, I see a book at the edge of my desk. That damn book. I've written a ton about it the last semester for college. I'm sick of it, but The Great Gatsby is consuming my life so I must share the burden with you.

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year receeds before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter- tomorrow we will run faster, strech our arms further... And one fine morning-"

A lot has changed over the course of just a few years. Juggling school, work, and two children, things don't get much more hectic. Life has a way of shuffling your priorities for you, against your will. However, amidst the pressure of everyday life, in the forefront of a country in social turmoil, one thing remains a constant: Michigan. I make time for it. I forcably shove it into the spinning cogs that move my life forward every Saturday. Everything stops for three hours. The chaos around me is nullified to a dull hum in the background. I could search the very depths of my conciousness to find something that compares to this unique passion of mine, but it would be to no avail. No matter the consequences. I'm still here.

The Great Gatsby, if you're familiar with it, is a tragedy. F. Scott Fitzgerald writes of our passion to recapture the past. To re-create the moments lost in memory. As it goes, this passion is ultimately damaging. No matter how hard you try to grab the ever-fleeting past, you'll walk away defeated and demoralized.

Michigan football seems to be doing the same, stuck in the realm of past glory. We as fans push this notion all the time. Perhaps if we merely accept that things are different now, we can truely move forward to capture a new essance of glory.

Forget about yesterday, forget about capturing the past. Focus upon today, where challenges await in the future. And put some damn steel in your spine.

"So we beat on".

Beating off to beating in?

Judging by yesterday's game, it looked like the team spent the past two weeks with the game film window on their laptop screens covered over by midgets banging hobos.

I can’t believe how ridiculous fans can be. Give me a break! Some of you guys seem to expect Michigan to win every single game. Not just expect but feel entitled to win every game. Everyone posting about harbaugh being overrated and how he should go back to the nfl is just absolutely nuts. Michigan has been in the national championship dicussion since harbaugh got here, and rightfully so. Your not gonna win them all. (Unless you are Alabama). Did anyone read posts from PSU fans last year after we beat them? In hindsight, quite entertaining. Everyone was calling for Franklins head. There was even a thread where PSU were saying they would take harbaugh over Franklin any day. Now look at them. Michigan is winning, the team is a national brand again. Michigan is recruiting at a high level. The harbaugh era recruits are still redshirt sophomores and juniors for Christ sakes. I absolutely agree that the offense needs to be retooled, but to say this is a different era now and harbaugh is irrelevant and they have him figured out is just stupid. One second harbaugh is your savior, “in coach we trust”, now everyone is bashing him. The coaching staff needs to address a lot of things on offense, and they will. Last night was probably a big wake up call. But if you think for a second that Michigan is gonna go out and find a better head coach, you’re delusional. Chill out, support your team. Quit acting like North Korea just nuked your favorite sports bar.

Anyone saying Harbaugh has to go is trolling - that's a fact. But Don Brown doesn't deserve the counterpart he has in Drevno. You have the best coach and team (defense) in CFB and on the other side you may have some of the worst OL/QB/RB in the top 25. Drevno has to go. Maybe the entire offensive staff but Frey.

We have more talent than this depleted MSU roster, we have one of the highest paid coaches in the country. We were at home at night against a rival. We were outcoached and outplayed. We are 1 and 4 against rivals under Harbaugh and will likely be 1 and 5 without some changes. Massive disappointment compared to the expectations Harbaugh has set for the program.

..Lloyd Carr had 4 seasons when he lost 4 games

one season he lost 5 ...

and 5 seasons when he lost 3 games.

...but of course he won the NC in his 3rd yr.... all is forgiven !
