The Snowflake Thread: Defense
Again, I know this looks like manufactured crap, but it helps us administrate the board a bit better in that it prevents unfathomable redundancy. Well, some of it.
This is your thread for defense and defensive playcalling. As usual, if you want to zero in on a particular play, that can probably be its own thread.

We have a great rushing defense until someone tries to run against us.

Well, here's how we did on defense by the numbers....
Total yards - 446
Passing yards - 227 yards, 18.92 yards per completion, 10.32 yards per attempt
Rushing yards - 219 yards on 46 carries, or 4.76 yards per rush
...and the recovered fumble. There was that.

Was the first of the year for Michigan. Let that sink in.

to pick my jaw up off the floor when the announcing crew broke that fact.
Eight. Games. In.
The App State and Miami (NTM) beatdowns, and no fumble recoveries.
Georgia Tech recovered five of them IN ONE QUARTER yesterday.
The MSU mistake was Michigan's most effective play on offense.

Rush Defense did its job! Our secondary is a major liability even though they play hard!
It doesn't when the defense is playing 3/4 of the game either!

Total plays were 68-57 in favor of MSU. That's hardly 3/4. The defense needed to make a statement to start the game. Instead, they let State drive down the field and score a TD. It was all downhill from there.

Whatcha want to bet our defense recovers fumbles and gets interceptions by the dozens in practice?

Because they are playing against our offense.

of watching the defense let the opponent score right before halftime. The offense had stunk all first half but they manage to kick a FG with about 4 minutes left in the half to make it 7-3 and what's the defense do??? Lets MSU go right down the field to score a TD with 20 seconds left in the half. Almost an exact reply of last year.
Granted UM probably still loses the game, but if they could have gone into the half down 7-3. who knows. What little momemtum UM had gained just went down the toilet.

MSU had 446 yards and could have had 600 if they hadn't abandoned the passing game altogether late in the 3rd quarter.
Rush defense? We made several tackles for loss, but when MSU wanted to run in te 4th, we stacked the box and there was nothing we could do about it. Saws every single player on our front 7 roation lying on his back after being smushed several times in that 4th quarter alone. Our defense got beat up.
