I always liked Slippery Rock too. There are lots of stories about Michigan alums driving to Slippery Rock for games and even donating to the school. From the internets: The announcement of Slippery Rock's football scores is a tradition at University of Michigan football games, begun in the 1950s by Michigan Stadium's public address announcer. Slippery Rock was so popular with UM fans that on Sept. 29, 1979, Slippery Rock played in-state rival Shippensburg at Michigan Stadium, in front of 61,143 fans, a record for a Division II football game (Shippensburg won, 45-14). Slippery Rock played a second game at "The Big House" in 1981, attracting 36,719 fans in a 14-13 loss to Wayne State University.

I didn't even realize that SR's scores weren't announced anymore. Boo to that! That almost stings as much as the piped-in jock jams! What a fun tradition. My parents (both alums) rooted for SR and passed along that rooting interest to me ('95). Hopefully the tradition comes back. Thanks for the reminder. Good times!

...for mentioning this. As something of a Johnny-Come-Lately Michigan fan (late 1980s) who loves the richness of the program's tradition, I was not even aware this was a part of that tradition. This must be resurrected. Yesterday.

I think they still announce the Slippery Rock score on Homecoming, but that's it. They need to resume doing it every week (and invite them back, too).
