Scouting OLSM vs. DLS

Submitted by umhero on

I just returned from the Catholic League Championship between Warren De La Salle and Orchard Lake St. Mary. During the regular season DLS routed OLSM 31-8, holding the Eaglets to under 120 yds on offense. Today the tables were turned with OLSM winning 38-0 on the strength of KJ Hamler and to a lesser degree Josh Ross.

KJ Hamler was a star on both sides of the ball. On defense he was in the pocket of DLS's best receiver all day with numerous pass break ups. On offense, unlike in their earlier match up, he was the go to target. Of 219 passing yards in the game he had 176 yards receiving on just five catches with two going for touchdowns. In the second half OLSM switched to a wishbone with Hamler on the sideline and DLS shut them down. Hamler ran out on third and long and we called it before it happened, deep out touchdown. Everyone in the stadium knew it was going there but he beat his defender like he was standing still.

Josh Ross was solid but not devastating. He probably lead the team in tackles. He had a good eye for the ball carrier and DLS was held to under 40 yds rushing. His name was called several times but I didn't see any memorable plays. This isn't meant to denegrate his skill. I'm just not sure there were opportunities for him to stand out.

On the DLS side, Michigan is recruiting Allen Stritzinger, DLS's star RB/CB. He didn't play supposedly due to injury. I heard an interesting rumor from two parents of DLS starters. They said that he sprained his ankle on September 19 against Brother Rice and he hasn't played since. They said he used to come to practice even with his injury but he hasn't been back in two weeks. They told me he doesn't want to aggravate his injury this season. He will transfer to Cass Tech for his senior year and plans to play at Michigan. These parents sounded a little frustrated by this. Their kids are both seniors and would like him out there.

Stritzinger is a UM lock. if his ankle is hurt I understand him not wanting to aggravate it, but would be nice to hear he was still attending practice to support his teammates. unfortunately i think MSU is the team to beat for Hammer.

I was just delivering the information as it was told to me. I think the implication they were making was that he quit the team two weeks ago and plans to transfer to Cass Tech. I suppose we willsee if he really does transfer.

I tend to agree with Magnus, if he knows the Michigan opportuinty will still be there if he doesn't play, why risk further injury by playing. If this is his plan, I hope he lets the Michigan coaches know.

Any word on Joey Hallman I believe he is the starting left guard for DLS?  Heard he was starting to get some D1 looks, but looks a little undersized to me.

As someone who knows Allen, he is hurt. He sat out rehabbing and tweaked it again in the CC game in which he played the first half of. And the stuff about transferring is bs, at least to my knowledge. He does like UM and they are his admitted leader, but we certainly aren't a "lock" for him. He's pretty undecided at the moment.
