Saban Blow Up

Submitted by Ziff72 on
Did anyone see Saban blow up on the sidelines of the LSU game? He did his best Woody Hayes throwing his head set into the turf and yelling "son of a bitch", then when 1 of his best players(Julio Jones)came over to the sidelines he just tore into his ass. Then I thought of RR and all the grief he was getting for screaming on the sidelines the last couple of weeks. You think that thread would get any legs in Alabama right now?? It's funny how when things are going bad, you're a complete dumb ass and people pounce on every move and when you win you're a hero. Oversigning, racial insensitivity, carpet bagger, being a dick, losing to La-Lafayette, no one gives a shit now he's 9-0. This season more than any has proved to me that everything is solved with the wins. This board has done a complete 180 in the course of 5 games. This team is on the right path and improving It'd be funny to see us lose to Wisc and then beat OSU to see how many injuries occurred trying to change direction going 85mph down the Mgoblog highway. Mark me down as pissed about the season, but fully behind RR.

the criticism of RichRod's yelling. A)This is football. B)I don't remember Bo acting like a librarian on the sideline. IIRC he had some pretty epic meltdowns as well. C)This is football.

Totally agree. I don't have a problem with a coach yelling at a guy when he screws up - that is football. You get yelled at when you screw up. I do have an issue with coaches taking pot shots at their players or blaming them at the end of the game (at least in college; pros is a different beast). I think RR treats this team well, praising them when the do well and pointing out when they screw up. It seems that because some chubby kid left the program and bitched about "family values" on his way out, RR is held to some standard at which he has to hug all of his players when they make a mistake and never show any anger or emotion. When RR smacks Tate upside the head for missing a play, then we can talk about his emotion getting the better of him; right now, I want my coach to be angry about blowing leads and games.

This fat annoying kid from Purdue sitting behind me on saturday kept yelling this. For example, when we comlpained about a late hit that didnt get called: "shut up this is football!"...when junior was interfered with on the punt: "what kind of call is that? this is football!"....all freakin' game. at one point i turned around and told him that i knew exactly what i was watching and didnt need anybody to clarify it for me. this did not stop him. At least he didn't do that "Boiler up!" nonsense.

Funny that this involved the 2 arguments people use as to why "yelling" at players is so bad: 1.) Can't yell at "younger" players (Julio is a soph) 2.) It causes them to play tight and thus poorly (anyone remember how Julio responed to getting yelled at?)

People in the South are also much more tolerant of this from coaches. Some folks up here are a little too sensitive and proper. At this point, RR is going to be criticized for everything he does (how he talks/yells at players, how he speaks in press conferences, why he lied about GPA, etc) by at least some faction of the fanbase. It has been so from day one, and now that he is not getting it done on the field for the second straight year, it will only get worse.

I have coached in the north and the south, and people in the south are much more accustomed to coaches riding players' asses. Parents in the south even want you to ride their kid's asses harder and you're like, "No...no...that's okay...I think I yelled enough. No, really. Seriously... ...yes, ma'am, I'll go yell at your son some more."

This is so true. When people here have asked me about the so called scandal, I tell them the Detroit Free Press is mad because RR and Barwis are making our players work almost as hard as Saban makes his players work. And they laugh about the idea of working players too hard. It's all about the wins.

at West Virginia, and he yelled more at Rasheed Marshall and Pat White than any of them. Of course, nobody bothers to make observations about any of that. If RR has shown anything, it's probably a crapload of restraint because this is a pretty young team.
