RR Coaches Corner sale

Submitted by Section 1 on

Did anybody else go?  I went, for the people-watching.  There were probably 300-400 people there, floating in and out.  I think I had bid-card #290 or so.  Three reporters from the Daily.  One from the AP.  One film crew from Fox, and one from WDIV.  No sign of Rosenberg, Snyder, Sharp, etc.

There were some rather cool things sold.  Lots and lots of standard sideline golf shirts.  A few commercially-unaviliable things like S&C t-shirts.  Two extremely cool t-shirts that had the helmet logo on them, that said "OFFENSE" and "SCORE" on them.  There were some signed hats.  Generally very nice stuff.

My rough guess (I'm sure an accurate number will be posted later) was about $15,000 for the Salvation Army.  There were about 140 items auctioned; some others for general sale.

Actually, the newspaper article said that he just punched in Salvation Army into his GPS and the one in Wayne came up, so he definitely drove it to the SA and didn't have a worker come pick it up.

Some quotes if you dont believe me...

"Rodriguez hand-delivered several bags of the clothing Monday, according to thrift store manager Ron Mathers."

"Mathers said Rodriguez was at the store for about 10 minutes and was treated like any other person donating items to the store."

Congratulations, son.  You're today's dumbass winner.

They asked Coach Rod about the location of his donation.  He laughed and said that in map-searching Salvation Army locations, he thought the one on "Michigan Avenue" seemed appropriate.  And also, he knew that the Wayne-Westland area had had some tough times over the past few years.

If you had been there, you'd also have known that the money is going to the Salvation Army general fund, and not to a particular location.  That's the Salvation Army's own deal, of course, and Coach Rod probably had no idea about how the proceeds would be distributed, shared, et cetera.  Although it is clear that the Michigan Avenue Thrift Store got a huge amount of foot traffic today, courtesy of Coach Rod's gesture.

Again, sincere congratulations on being today's top idiot.  Now you can drove yourself out for some beef jerky.

given that I live in Texas. I would have liked to buy something to support the SA. Have volunteered for SA in the past and they can get quite territorial with their big donations. (Cars, Boats, and the like) Usually they operate independently and help the individuals within their certain geographic area.

One of the earlier articles that I read had stated that someone came to pick up his items. The "Michigan Ave" idea is clever, hadn't seen that before. Apologies for pushing your old man fist-waving button.
