RR and the Offensive Line

I watched coach's presser today on the outlook for spring practice and it was very encouraging. At least as encouraging as it could be. I think I enjoyed it just because I was jonesin' for anything UofM football. DISCLAIMER: I do believe that defense wins championships and is very important, but not as important with an offense like RR's. Being one of the resident o-lineman on this board(2yrs at guard for a D3 squad..sorry, I just feel like I have to justify that I am more than an 8th grade long snapper), I feel I need to chime in to give the heavies their due. RR was very positive today on the line and it was a heart felt truth that he spoke. You could hear it in his drawl. I don't know if anyone on this blog realizes it, but the line is where the 7-9 wins will come from this coming year. Yes, I said 7-9. The wins will not come from Tate, Mike Martin, or even Zoltan....okay, maybe 3 or 4 from Zoltan. I am not dreaming here. 7-9 wins are a reality because the offensive line, the heart of the team, is going to be tougher. They have experience. The line is a unit that HAS to work together every play unlike any other positions on the field. Yes the "skilled" guys make plays but the line allows those play to develop and succeed. So this is not rocket science, most of you know that we need a good line to win games, but do you realize the importance of last year? They learned what needed to be learned for our QB to succeed....the QB with talent.....please show me a QB with talent....more talent than last year. We all got wrapped up and are still wrapped up in the hoopla of the QB situation. Great, that is fun to talk about. But the hay is put in the barn by the o-line. We will not have 43 threads about them but know that they are more important than anything Tate, Death, or the Coner will do. Yes, in that order. Call me whatever you want saying we will have at least 7 wins this year, but with the little I know about the inner workings of a football TEAM, as long as we stay somewhat healthy* on the front line we will be fine. And then that much better in '10. All I am asking is to keep an ear to the ground for this offensive line. You will see their improvement if you watch more than the ball. The future is bright! GO BLUE! *of course health plays a minor roll here
