Risk Day 42 - Headline News: America's Shores Overrun With Wolverines.

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on May 3rd, 2020 at 11:35 AM

With the weather warming up in many parts of the country, officials expected to see Americans beginning to explore our nation's beautiful shores once again (from a safe distance from one another of course). Instead, the scene on Sunday morning was both terrifying and beautiful. Hundreds upon hundreds of Wolverines were happily snarling and scampering around various beaches and coastlines on both the west and east coasts.

Given that Wolverines are almost wholly confined to Canada and certain parts of the interior northwestern USA (https://tinyurl.com/ybcg9547), officials were baffled by the swarm of furry killers. That is, until they were reminded by the media that there are a bunch of college football nerds who are passing these crazy times by playing College Football Risk. Once that was pointed out, officials universally responded by sighing, shrugging their shoulders, and offering to hand out raw meat to anybody who wants to make friends with the murderous little creatures, noting that "they do make good allies."

And now, back to reality! I know this has been an unusual recap post, but (1) I wanted to change things up a bit and (2) I couldn't help myself when I noticed how much of the west and east coasts we grabbed last night. This, of course, is wholly due to our efforts to secure the west coast and invade Ohio State and Georgia Tech's strongholds. It's tough sledding in both areas right now (especially since Ohio State and Georgia Tech's combined power is ~1,600 more than ours), but we're making progress.Of course, our ability to build on this progress is wholly dependent on you. We got some help last night with over a dozen of our players becoming 5-stars, and we are also getting support from our Cornhusker and Longhorn allies. However, it's the sheer size and commitment of our MGoArmy that's the difference between us being in position to potentially win and getting wiped out by the Buckeyes and the Dijon Jackets. We NEED all of you to keep playing every day. Go to MichiganCFBRisk.com every day, grab an assignment every day, and execute it every day.I've seen WAY too many individual reports of players forgetting to put in moves and falling back to a 1-star. We can't afford for that to happen with just over a week left in the game. So please, please, please put in your moves right now. Don't forget! It's easy to get distracted and let time get away from you. We lost 60 players last night, and while that's not a devastating number, those 60 players could've been the difference in a couple key territories last night. So keep the momentum going for just a little bit longer and Go Blue!

So I've really only played risk once or twice in real life and have been playing this for like 3 days now- so if this just went indefinitely would anyone actually 'win'? Or would it just be this perpetual territory exchange

A regular game of risk will eventually end because one side builds up an overwhelming amount of force.

This version, on the other hand, might go on indefinitely, as there's less of a bias in favor of the more powerful teams, and the fact that teams execute their turns in parallel mean that it's really difficult to eliminate anybody: if someone's down to one territory left, not only do you have to attack their territory successfully, but you also have to defend every territory that they can attack.

I'm sure they'll continue to tweak the rules; I hope that will eventually make it possible to build a version that's more likely to converge.

I posted this in the day 41 thread as well. But yesterday my assignment was attack Connecticut. I did that. Then logged in last night after the roll and noticed my profile was back to a 1* and my streak at 0. Anything I can do here?

Did you wait until the green dialogue box popped up confirming your move?

This exact thing hosed me once, but thankfully it was only day 3 or 4 of this campaign. Out of precaution, I now refresh the risk page a few seconds after I submit my move - if the attack/defend order you carried out was captured, said territory should be highlighted in gray.

Thanks for posting the links every day, I’m always on mobile and your posts make it easy to login/complete a move. I defended U of Kentucky today, so hopefully that’s good.

I think if there were more active teams they'd have pushed the limit to 60 or more.  Unfortunately participation for most teams is limited so they die quick.  Makes it kind of boring to keep going with a handful of teams.  Especially considering how difficult it is to completely eliminate teams at this stage in the game.

The "Get an Assignment" button appears to not work. I've tried going in through the link, through reddit, logging out and logging in... my streak appears to be ending just on the verge of upping my star power. Is John O'Neill running Reddit now?
