Question re Women's Gymnastics Seating

Submitted by Bluesince89 on February 7th, 2022 at 9:11 AM

Pardon the interruption of your regularly scheduled Gattis programing. Niece is visiting from out of town this weekend, and we thought it'd be fun to take her to a  women's gymnastics meet. She's 5 and loves the sport and participates in it. I don't follow the sport at all and I know nothing other than we are really good.

Do the reserved tickets get us any closer to the action? The price difference is only $2, so it's more about just making sure we get good seats/closer (I know she's going to want to sit close up and it may not actually be better). Is it first come, first serve? If so, how early would we need to arrive to get close seats?

Thanks!

For most meets, all seats are in lower bowl below the aisle.  Generally, you can move around to be near your favorite apparatus.  There really isn't a bad seat in the house.  Your niece will love it.

Sometimes the team will sign posters after the meet.  Which meet are you planning to attend?

Gymnastics dad here. For the home team, the four events in order are vault, bars, beam and floor, and if the place isn't packed, you can usually move around the arena to watch Michigan on the various events.

If it's packed and you need to pick a seat, the best place is near the beam. It's the most fascinating event to watch (Michigan is great at it), and unlike floor and vault, they don't move around all over the place. Getting to watch gymnasts of that caliber on the balance beam from just a few feet away is an amazing experience.

You don't want to sit too low in the arena because it'll be harder to see all the events, particularly floor. I wouldn't go any lower than the 10th or 11th row.

So, bottom line: If you have to pick one spot, get there early and get seats near the beam.

MY W is a letter-winner from one of the early teams from 1976.  Quite a different experience from these days.  They drove in a van to their meets.  This was back in the days when they didn't get the same letter jacket as the men, thanks to Bo.  That slight was later rectified.  We usually go to one meet a year, this year it will be Auburn.

Best to you daughter.

Gymnastics dad here also. I highly recommend being in line and close to the beam. It's general ?. Maybe 15 rows up. It's usually not packed either. You can observe the whole meet from here with real good views.

The general admission seats can be good if you get their early enough.  My recollection is that they remove the maize rage benches so  the closer rows on the west side of the arena are higher above the floor.
