Question re: Jack Miller's College Position

Submitted by Frank Drebin on

Jack Miller is listed as both a C and DE depending on what site you look at. I thought RR had been recruiting him for the offensive side of the ball, but lately many have been saying that we only have 1 OL commit in Posada. Does anyone know the direction that Hoke and co. are looking with Miller? I remember some saying they saw him play this year and he had quite a mean streak on the defensive side of the ball, so I wouldn't be disappointed either way. We still have Khoury and Pace waiting behind Molk, but I always think the more OL the better. It would be nice to have a decent OL class this year with Posada, Miller, and hopefully Bryant and Fisher closing it out. What are your thoughts, or what have people been hearing?

I don't know but would guess OL because we are so thin there. Pace had a major knee injury and I don't think his recovery has gone well. Others camn fill us in.

From annarbor.com:

"His knee had bothered him a little bit in the spring, and it became more of an issue after the first (summer) practice," Rodriguez said. "It looks like he’ll need some procedures done on his knee, and he’ll go ahead and take that redshirt year."

I don't remember hearing about surgery, but this would seem to indicate he had it done. I haven't heard anything about his recovery.

Not at all likely that Watson will be offered a 5th year, and walk-on Heininger is listed as a DT though he has played DE.  Most speculate that Rock will be a DT as well.

All of that said, it appears that Jack Miller is vastly under rated and will be a great asset on whichever side of the ball they choose, though I suspect G/C is most likely.

He's not that small for a DT.  He weighs probably 15 pounds more than Terry Talbott did when he showed up.  He was going to be a red-shirt anyway, we have a lot of DLs bigger and older than he is.

And yes - Miller is for sure an offensive lineman.  We've taken a total of three OLs over the last two classes, and Pace is the only interior guy.  I've heard talk of Miller as a center, but he'll play guard if he needs to as well, and he may need to.
