Possible Grad Transfer Driskel EDIT

Submitted by jbibiza on

Florida QB Jeff Driskel has been granted a release to transfer. He has graduated this year so can play right away. He was a five star recruit who played a lot but never panned out, and was replaced half way through this season. Not exactly Hogan but maybe worth a shot. Possible that Durkin has some inside knowledge about his potential  (even though he is a defensive coach).

EDIT: He came in today and did not look good. Threw a pick in the second half that led to a TD.

What doesn't make sense is why so many are so openly opposed to this. We likely will have an open scholarship, and if some people trust Harbaugh to get something out of Morris/Speight/Malzone then why wouldn't you trust him with a more experienced guy like Driskel? Worst case is that he comes here, doesn't improve and we start Morris or Speight in front of him. Best case, Harbaugh turns him around just like he did with Alex Smith, and we get some solid production out of him, while Morris is able to learn more from Harbaugh and come in and have a stellar senior season.

However, I would prefer it if they got Hogan, however, he hasn't even stated that he will transfer yet.

The reason ppl would rather Hope for Shane or Speight instead of Driskel is because we need to develop our talent. What happens when we bring Driskel in and he doesn't pan out AGAIN. Once again a 5th year senior stalled the development of the players already on the roster for ANOTHER year. So while i would never call this a bad idea I wouldn't take the risk. Then again I'm not the coach
