Players that stepped up

Submitted by Bringitback2a2 on

Who did you notice as a player who stepped up on Saturday? i think we saw a lot of players really take a huge leap. The player i noticed most was Courtney Avery. That kid played his ass off. Granted he got beat for a touchdown but he was in pretty good position. I also loved his open field tackle where he flipped the guy. Big props for all those freshman DB's who are way over matched but give it their all every play. Go Blue!!!!

did a great job of serving up my nine-beer sampler after the game.  Don't know her name, but she's a brunette with straight hair and fresh ink.  Not half bad on the eyes.

Vincent Smith did have a nice game, but I still want to see either Hopkins or Shaw on 3rd & short.  Hope Shaw is back 100%, because I think he can be the big-play RB we need.  Speed to burn, that one.

Impressed by Avery's play, and RVB was yesterday's line beast.  Roh back on the line is a huge improvement, and since I've been very critical of "Gordon Cameron", he is playing much better in his new spot also.  A step in the right direction.  Just need to stop the turnovers and clean up special teams.  GO BLUE!

I know I'm a Debbie Downer, but only at Michigan can there be a thread congratulating a bunch of defensive players on stepping up . . . when we gave up 65 points.

That's just a testament to how bad this defense has been over the past few years.

but I am surprised that Roy wasn't brought up more often. After all, he obliterated the all time receiving record.

That said, I think the reason the D players are mentioned more is that there is a collective sense of pride that our young defensive guys played hard and earned a victory at the end.

Couple stats I found interesting:

1. We started out the game in a 3-4 with Fitzgerald replacing Banks on the starting unit.

2. Mike Martin 1 solo tackle

3. Ryan Van Bergen 0 solo tackles

4. Talbott the corner didn't play a snap in the secondary

5. Jason Ford finished 8 yards shy of giving Illinois 3 100 yard rushers

6. Denard was low man on the totem pole as far as YPC @ 3.3
