Penn State at Michigan - 3:30 pm game
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
Cool.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
Title of the article says 3:45pm...
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:45 PM ^
That's an approximate kickoff time then. Games never kick off at exactly 3:30; that's just when the TV coverage starts.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
Yeah. I know. Noon games kickoff a little later than 12:00. 3:30 games kick a little after 3:30.
I was just going with the time slots that we are familiar with from past ESPN/ABC announced times.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
I am fine with 3:30 or night. Just glad it isn't a noon kick.
October 22nd, 2018 at 2:10 PM ^
Same. I'm in CA. Noon or evening games are great. Just not ready to scream(and have a cold beverage) at 9AM.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Aww man I was hopin a night game. Oh well
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
It'll be pitch black by halftime with all the commercials!
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:45 PM ^
Definitely a second half dusk/night game.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
The game is on ESPN
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Good. Now if they would only be so kind as to lose another game and get those ticket prices down just a bit I'd really appreciate it.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:51 PM ^
Wait a second. What happened to all the people that said this was an agreed upon night game? Michigan and Penn State have only 3 losses so poor records can't be why this was not put at night.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
Most people thought either Penn State or Wisconsin would be. Wisconsin was.
The only way that PSU would've been was if it was huge in terms of the Big Ten stakes, but PSU will be entering with at least 2 losses and possibly even 3 (beating Iowa this week is no guarantee).
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:25 PM ^
There were people even after the Wisconsin announcement that said PSU would still be a night game.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:51 PM ^
Sorry Hatter - having PSU come in ranked is more important than dropping ticket prices. If you want to save money, switch to GEICO or something.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:58 PM ^
Strongly agree here.
There are a couple of issues developing with our schedule that are a little irritating for SOS/playoff consideration. Oklahoma is still in the mix, as would be a one loss ND (with a pesky a head to head win over Michigan). I would prefer that any opponent we have win all of the rest of their games except for us.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
Yes. There's been a lot of national talk about how Michigan controls their own destiny in the playoff race, which might be true but also might not be. Who knows what the committee would do? FiveThirtyEight's attempt to predict what the committee would do in a situation where Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Michigan all win out is the following:
1) Alabama and Clemson in
2) Notre Dame 79% chance (~4 in 5)
3) Oklahoma 77% chance
4) Michigan 38% chance
. . . and no one else with a > 1% chance. They make these simulations by running the rest of the season 20,000 times using FPI and the AP Poll (until the playoff rankings come out) and then using the committees past behavior (an admittedly small sample size) and stated methods to guess what the committee would do with each scenario generated.

Good news for me. I'm going to a wedding that starts at 6:30 EST.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
No problem. Just sit in the back with the game streaming on your phone, volume turned down. No one will notice.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Watched OT vs IU on a tablet in the back of a church during a wedding last season. 4 of us hovering. INT happened just as the first bridesmaid entered the church.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
This game seems to have dropped in priority for the networks.
ABC/ESPN selected the Notre Dame at Northwestern game for their 7:15/7:30 time slot.
FOX is taking Nebraska-Ohio State at noon and saving 3:30 for a Big 12 game and 8:00 for the Pac 12.
ABC then took Iowa at Purdue for 3:30, leaving Michigan v Penn State for ESPN.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:54 PM ^
I'm guessing Fox will take WVU at Texas at 3:30? I'd think Alabama at LSU would be a night game. If not, the 3:30 block is going to be overbooked.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
ABC hasn't picked their night game yet. It could be ND-N'western, WVU-Texas or OU-TTU. If it's ND-N'western, then FOX picks between the other 2 for 3:30. If ABC picks a Big 12 game, then the other B12 game goes to FOX 3:30 and ND-N'western is ESPN 7:15.
Alabama/LSU is 8 pm on CBS.
October 22nd, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
The only surprising thing is the very last bit. That signals to me that the ABC executives are expecting Iowa to beat Penn State in Happy Valley and Purdue to win in East Lansing.
Kind of surprised they didn't use a 6 day hold for these games, a lot could swing things next weekend.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
I get the ND selection for the night slot. They are riding an undefeated season and the rest of their road schedule is weak. If ESPN / ABC wants ND at night, this is pretty much their only shot at a decent game (all of their home games are on NBC).
As for Fox, they have had us a number of times. Not sure that their selection of other teams (especially for the nooner) reflects declining interest in our game
The only one I can’t explain is ABC taking Purdue / Iowa at the same time slot. Michigan and PSU have much larger, more fervent alumni bases, are significantly more relevant and are playing something of a rivalry-light game. Purdue / Iowa is just two middling teams playing each other in a relatively meaningless game.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
From what I have seen, it may be the game that decides that BIG West.
As for the ABC/ESPN thing, see my response below for an opinion. I don't think the ABC/ESPN thing means what it used to mean.
October 22nd, 2018 at 4:39 PM ^
Yeah the Michigan/PSU game isn't likely to have an affect on the big ten champion (Michigan can lose and it would still be in control of their destiny for B1G) while Iowa/Purdue is.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
I'm not sure the ABC telecast is really a "priority" pick over the ESPN game for 3:30. A lot of people are streaming these games now, and pretty much any person who has ABC has ESPN also. Like, the 2015 game v. MSU was a GameDay Top 15 special and it was broadcast on ESPN, not ABC.
And I think this means that we will have McDonaugh and Blackledge instead of Levy and Griese. I will take that.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
I think this is right, actually, and I got it a little wrong.
What ABC is doing is announcing they will show either Iowa-PU or FSU-NCSt at 3:30, with the other one at 3:30 on ESPN2. Michigan-Penn State is guaranteed ESPN.
Note that there isn't nearly as much difference in priority between ESPN and ABC as there is between those 2 and ESPN2. Also, a Michigan regular season game hasn't been on ESPN since 2016--don't know if they care about that.
October 22nd, 2018 at 11:23 PM ^
Just this past week ---- Clemson/NCSU was on ESPN and PSU/Indiana was on ABC at 3:30.
The ACC game was the better game - Disney is comfortable with putting the better game on ESPN vs. ABC.
PSU/Michigan will get good ratings no matter where it's aired, of course.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
That works. :)
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:09 PM ^
Can't wait.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:10 PM ^
Very happy about this!
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:10 PM ^
So, it'll turn into a pseudo-night game by the second half. I guess that works.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:10 PM ^
Anyone need tickets ? So much for Its Going to be a night game . Fml
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
Looking for two. [email protected]
October 22nd, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^

October 22nd, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
This works out wonderfully for me as my wife has family coming in on that Saturday and we have to take them to the zoo earlier in the day. I should be home just in time for the kick. For once in my life, TV gets this right when it comes to my life.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
Not good news for me. I was hoping for noon. I'm in Chicago next week and was going to drive to Ann Arbor Friday and see the game Saturday then drive back to northern VA after the game.
Oh well, maybe another hotel night in Ann Arbor.
October 22nd, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
That's great.
October 22nd, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
I am good with this.
I'd say BEAT PENN STATE, but we've gotta focus on our opponent this week.
October 23rd, 2018 at 6:36 AM ^
I can’t post because I’m so new and I’m hoping someone can help. I usually fly delta and because of my frequent flier status I get Wi-Fi on all flights. Well my tight ass company booked me on a flight from Detroit to Chicago and then to Birmingham during the penn state game. I’ll be boarding the flight from ohare at 4:30 so I can catch the 1st hour. What then? Can anyone help with their experience on United? I checked the website and it appears they only offer a one month subscription to the tune of $49 for Wi-Fi. I don’t wanna pay that but will if I have to, although I’m concerned about streaming the game and it’s quality.
