Parking at Briarwood Mall on football game days?

Submitted by Unicycle Firefly on August 11th, 2019 at 11:36 AM

Board is kind of a mess today, so I figured I might as well ask this now.

Are you allowed to park for free at Briarwood Mall on game days? My Dad and I always go to games together, but a recent move means we'll be traveling separately and meeting up in Ann Arbor before each game. Was hoping one of us could park at Briarwood for free while we take the second car to a lot closer to the stadium. Thanks!

Briarwood has a park and ride shuttle. You could also park at the commuter lot at M-14 and Miller Rd. That way you'd avoid all of the traffic .

I have gone to a few games over the years and parked there without trouble.  It is about a half hour walk, if you walk quickly.  I try to get there a little early to go into the mall and buy something cheap so I can consider myself a customer.

I am from out of town so when I come to a game I always stay at motel in briarwood and take the shuttle to the game  3 bucks round trip . Never saw anyone checking parking to see if you are a mall customer on that particular day. Motel prices ridiculous on the other hand

We park there every year and walk to the stadium.  Not a bad walk, and you miss most of the post game traffic depending on which direction you are going.

I've been parking there for years and taking the AATA shuttle with zero problems.  I usually get there pretty early, 1.5 to 2 hours before kickoff so sitting in traffic has never really been a problem either.

OP: It all depends on how you feel about traffic. As far as that is concerned, you could do a *lot* better than Briarwood as a post-game location for a second vehicle. There will be very high traffic on nearby Ann Arbor Saline Road and South State Street.

Where will you be headed afterward? If it's somewhere south you might just have to take your lumps. If it's W/NW/N/NE/E, though, I'd put the car somewhere else. Someone mentioned a commuter lot on the north side.

Draw a mile-or-so radius around the stadium and park somewhere in the 0-180 degree range. For example, Burns Park (eastern part) would work well. I've parked near the actual (Burns) park several times and walked.

If you are going to do that I'd suggest parking on the opposite side of the briarwood parking lot, closer to the freeway. One, it will be an easier in and out for you, but also it will let those people who are going to park and walk, not have to walk so far. (disclosure: walking is good for your body)

If you are a senior, you can apply to AATA for a Gold pass and ride for free!  Park for free!  I have used the Weber's shuttle for years and it works well -- though after the game is more hectic than I would like.

We always parked on the street in back of the Ann Arbor High woods off Scio Church Road. There is a path through the woods that ends up near the High School. Short walk to the stadium from there. Pays to get there early to get a good parking spot near the woods. Go Blue.

Yes, you can park there (for free), you don't actually have to visit the mall, and you won't get ticketed or towed (not that there'd be any way to figure out who's actually at the mall or not).

I have a friend who's been parking at the mall for years. I'm not sure if it's the AATA shuttle others have referenced, or another one, but they take some kind of shuttle from in front of one of the hotels on the backside of the mall to and from the game. I believe it's something like $2 per person; he swears by it.
