OTL: Sunday, Lane Kiffin

Submitted by TomVH on
I don't really have an opinion on Lane Kiffin, but I thought this was funny. Today, OTL: Sunday featured a story on Lane Kiffin. It highlighted the stir he's caused already at Tennessee, his false accusation of a recruiting violation against Florida, and his own recruiting violations. He goes on to say that he's learning as he goes, and has a better grasp for the rules now. He also says that everyone commits violations, but they're just talking about his more. Towards the end of the story, they show audio and video of Kiffin meeting and greeting with two recruits in his office. They sit down and talk for about 20 seconds. The ESPN anchor closes the story by saying that Lane Kiffin committed another recruiting violation by letting ESPN tape the two recruits, and that Tennessee is now reviewing the violation. Phenomenal.

Douche. Why again did he get this job? And, his after the cuff justifications for his violations are just rich. I'm sure we'll hear this week that he "planned" to violate NCAA rules in the Outside the Lines piece.

He's making Al Davis look smarter and smarter with every week for firing him. I used to feel sorry for the guy but I just can't believe he's fucked up so much. I mean if he turns out to have a horrible career at Tennessee, he will certainly have an opportunity to hold the title of worst coaching hire ever. At least this takes the attention off RichRod, who everyone seemed to have a problem with last year for leaving WVU.

I hate to admit it, but I am staring to think I was wrong and Al Davis was probably right. How weird is that? 2) Why does TomVH only have 23 points? Shouldn't he begin with like 1.34 bagillion?

is that he has landed highly rated recruits. Yes, he's a mess, but when you land two 5*'s and a 4* on or after signing day you must be doing something right. How many kids that attended the Big Cat weekend at Auburn will commit? Recruiting violations took place and the act that create the violation was minor, but it was what most impressed the recruits. So if you're not going to be punished.....

he served as the recruiting coordinator for a number of years (2005-2007?) and landed the #1 class every year he served in that role. And even though there was some smoke, nobody ever found the fire...so if it worked consequence-free there, why not bring it to Tennessee???

I think Tennessee forgives him, he's done well recruiting so far (winning the Bryce Brown sweepstakes notably.) A couple of winning seasons shouldn't hurt that. Steve Spurrier pulled stuff like this, and the only difference is that Kiffin hasn't done anything. Yet.
