OT - Will (Peterson) James now a Lion

Submitted by jtmc33 on
Former Wolverine William Peterson, now known as Will James, signed with Detroit yesterday. I was surprised to see that he has had a legit 8-year NFL career (albeit with a few teams) If Will Peterson can do it... so can Morgan Trent. They had similar "success" in their college careers

Peterson looked like a very talented CB when he was at Michigan. Off-the-field problems derailed his career here so he transferred. He's nothing like Morgan Trent.

Your point that Peterson "looked like a very talented CB when he was at Michigan" can be used to describe Trent too. Trent never made it over the hump of having potential rather than becoming that star we all waited for. I think we agree on that. The post did not make comparisons in their off-field behaviors or lust for strippers.

Peterson showed flashes of great promise as a reserve but didn't last in the program long enough to take over when the guys in front of him graduated. Trent got to start for three years. He just wasn't that good. Being able to run fast =/= being a great CB.

If I remember right, Will Peterson and his roommate hired a stripper to come to their room in West Quad, and he stole a bunch of cash from her purse (and was subsequently kicked off the team). I still take pride in his being an alumnus of sorts, though.

You remember correctly. Peterson also got into a brawl at a frat party, leading to assault charges/conviction and later, after he'd been booted off the team (but was reportedly in line to be reinstated, a la Carson Butler) was busted on drug distribution charges. The weird thing is, he was a pretty smart guy - he was in one of my classes and did pretty well (as far as I know). I don't know why he couldn't stay out of trouble. On the field, he was very talented. If you watch some '97 games again, you'll see Peterson being regularly put in single coverage as a true freshman, and doing well. He was a much better CB than Trent. At any rate, it seems like he's now gotten his life together, which is good to see.
