I am admittedly not a huge baseball fan, but I'm a diehard Detroit/Ann Arbor/Auburn Hills sports fan and it pains me to continue to see the Tigers blow games, or just play poorly in general. What's going on with these guys? Gave up 3 runs and counting in the bottom of the 8th today.
OT - Tigers blow another one, WTF
Benoit has struggled this series. He gave up the runs in the 8th. Overall, they are not playing good baseball right now. Swept two series in a row.
Yea Benoit came in there and blew it. I think the 2 major area of concerns for Detroit are bullpen, which started the season off ok, and hitting. Victor Martinez comes back Wednesday and even though he started the season off slow, I expect him to pick it up eventually and give Cabrera some protection.
Starting pitching has improved since the first week of the season but the bullpen regressed. Our only hope is that Detroit plays in the worst division in baseball so making the playoffs isnt out of reach.
If they manage a .500 record, that still might just cut it in the AL Central when all is said and done, but they need to put Coke back in the bullpen and bring up even just a half-assed starter from Toledo. Some bats that aren't stone cold might help too...
What do you expect. Still holding to my 81 wins prediction.
the tigers' division is so poor i really think a team with 84 wins can finish first-----so, our mediocre-around-.500 tigers can win it
they could have easily won all three games in the series with a few more timely hits and a couple more key outs. This series showed why Cleveland has the record they do at the moment. They got those timely hits and key outs, that was the difference.
I guess the good news is that Cleveland should come back to Earth at some point, and both Chicago and Minnesota are off to poor starts.
Benoit blew it again and put up a 60.75 (!) ERA over 1.1 innings for my fantasy team this week, to boot. Thanks Joaquin!
I may get negged back to Bolivia, but I think it may be time for a coaching change. I love Leyland, but he just isn't getting it done with a boatload of talent. Early season is the best time to make a change.
I cannot believe Dombrowski gave $16 million to a setup man with a career ERA over 4.
Dombrowski makes some really good moves and makes some that really don't make any sense but overall I like him. He does seem to overpay alot though and the Dontrelle Willis contract is another that even at the time I was like WTF?
At least the AL Central is pretty mediocre this year.
The Indians may come back to earth but with Sizemore and Santana healthy, a solid closer and a young starting staff off to a blazing start I wouldn't count on it.
We keep saying Indians come back to earth...I'll be waiting. I think they're better than KC though. When healthy Cle is a decent team but can Hafner and Sizemore stay healthy all year?
Just need to see what happens when Martinez comes back. Cabrera, Avila, and Boesch are the only one hitting. The managers need to figure something out and I think think Leylands contract gets renewed this offseason. DD will stay, I dont think DD is that bad.
I live in Cleveland and am as baffled as the rest of the country at the Tribe's success so far this year. I couldnt name two players on the team after Sizemore and the Oriental dude.
Either that or you don't know much about baseball or read the paper at all. Hafner is still on the team, LaPorta and Brantley were the main pieces of the Sabathia deal. Masterson should be known from his days coming out of Boston's bullpen, and was the main piece of the Victor Martinez deal.
I'm not sure how you don't know who Carmona is. Carrasco was one of the main pieces of the Cliff Lee deal. Asdrubal Cabrera has been a very good player for 3 years. Orlando Cabrera has been around forever. We got Chris Perez in the deal for Jake Westbrook. Oh, and that "oriental guy" is Shinsoo Choo, and he has 2 seasons hitting .300, and is absolutely a legitimate 5 tool player (aside from his slow start). Carlos Santana has been one of the top prospects in baseball for the last 3 years, and it was a complete theft that we got him from the Dodgers for Casey Blake.
This Tribe team reminds me of the 2006 Tiger team.
Good young pitching and especially the timely hitting.
I know it's early and we play in a weak division but this Tiger team is on the verge of sinking further with the Yankees coming to town.
Our bats are terrible w/risp (4-14 today) and the bullpen is shaky at best.
This team is also continuing the trend of the last few years; swinging at pitches way out of the strike zone, bad defense and untimely hitting.
Wouldn't it be nice to see a hit with a runner in scoring position, is that too much to ask.
Tigers are fine, you guys need to shut it.
