Steve Phillips finally fired. Not too surprising after his affair becomes a national story.

I never understood how he had a job in the first place - he was a mediocre GM for the Mets. Sure he has some insight, but nothing to write home about, and most of his analysis sounded like the canned responses you hear at press conferences. You hate to see his dirty laundry exposed like that to the rest of the world, but I don't think anyone will miss him on ESPN.

but gotta say that I kind of thought his commnets were always informative because he brought a different perception to trades, salaries, etc that a GM, not a fan or player would bring.

Sometimes he did provide good insight, but it just seemed that most of the time he knew quite a bit about the big teams and just of fudged his way with everyone else. Maybe that is just indicative of a ESPN-wide focus, but I was just unimpressed with his analysis when it didn't involve a team from New York, Boston, Chicago, or LA.

Why should a guy get fired for having an affair? What the fuck's that got to do with his ability to be a good TV announcer guy?
Bullshit ass phony morality? I say OF COURSE!

"Why should a guy get fired for having an affair? What the fuck's that got to do with his ability to be a good TV announcer guy?"
Well, when your psycho mistress reveals to the world details about your endowment and birthmarks, the TV audience can never look at you the same way again.
What's morbidly funny here is that he isn't even the first ESPN commentator to have a story about his wang enter the national conversation!

you shouldn't dip your pen in the company inkwell.
Seriously, having a work affair is about the single dumbest thing a guy can do.

he was a terrible announcer.
He lost it for me when he said that Denard Span (Twins) was not a good leadoff hitter.
Hmmmmmmmm, guy hits .300, gets on base nearly 40% of the the time; swipes over 20 bases and has decent xtra base power.
What more should he do to be a good leadoff hitter?
