OT: Other CFB Blogs

Submitted by joeyb on
Are there any other really good blogs out there for other college football teams? I am just curious if there are any other blogs that even come close to what MGoBlog offers. If there are, do they do anything like UFRs, Picture Plays, Tuesday Recruitin, or Friday Night Lights?

A lot do Friday night lights posts, and a few (I remember a OSU blog trying it once) have tried UFR like posts. Picture pages don't come as often from anybody I read, which is somewhere around 50-60 blogs (that's just a small slice of the total). There are still quite a few blogs that do them on occasion. It's a relatively new feature here, at least on a consistent basis.

Dr. Saturday (to which Brian links pretty regularly, formerly SMQ) is an excellent non-team-specific college football blog. I finally added that to my feed reader this fall and found myself wishing that I'd done it much sooner. Most people have at least heard of EDSBS, which is a Florida blog but covers a lot of generic college football info as well. There are plenty of blogs out there if you're looking for more coverage, different coverage, etc. Take a look through Brian's mgolicious link lists now and then, as he often links out to some good articles.

EDSBS is necessary, as is Smart Football and anything Chris Brown touches, as he has the Midas touch regarding football knowledge. I enjoy Black Hearts Gold Pants personally, and I also listen to a twice weekly podcast called the Solid Verbal, don't have a link, but its good stuff. EDSBS is very entertaining stuff, covering a lot of college football, written by a Florida fan. I would say for humor and such its one of the top blogs out there. Smart Football is focused on X's and O's, and Game Theory, eg. When going for it on fourth down makes the most sense. No real school affiliation to speak of, but the best source for in-depth understanding of how football works. Its author, Chris Brown, also does a weekly spot for Dr. Saturday, and wrote the piece that inspires the Dinosaur Schematic Advantage post by Brian. He also reads Brians UFR's so there's a chance you get more on that. BHGP is pretty entertaining, its iowas SBnation blog, and always good for a laugh. Finally, The Solid Verbal is...well a podcast. They talk about college football, and play voicemails from callers. There is a disturbing trend of callers saying Michigan sucks, but its nothing too bad. Also, if you find the archives, there is one where Chris Brown discusses his tressel piece. It should be required listening. Hope this helps a little.

Hey Jenny Slater (Georgia) Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician (Syracuse) I also think Lake the Posts (Northwestern) is pretty good too. Not college football, but I recently discovered Advanced NFL Stats, which is doing a lot of good things with game theory, minimax, etc.

LTP used to be top rate, then, I feel like the Kool Aid just started to break into his writing too much. I don't know how the guy can keep up the positive even in the shadow of doom. For anyone into RSS feeds, there is a "BigTen Bloggers" feed that features a few of the older/better ones. They've got a good mix of Purdue, Michigan, OSU, Iowa, and Penn State blogs. It also has a few Minnesota and LTP on there. Nothing from Wisconsin, IU, UI, or MSU if I remember correctly. I don't know if sean ever plans on updating it with more links or not.
