Kudos to Apolo Anton Ohno, 7-time Winter Games medalist (most for USA). He skated against two Koreans and two Canadians in the 1000m short track finals, started out 3rd, made a pass to 2nd, but got bumped and, off-balance, lost his speed. The two Koreans seized the opportunity to pass everybody. Ohno was in last, but got back in it and passed to get bronze. Earlier Shani Davis won silver in 1500m speed skating.

Ohno was poised to win, but it looked like he got caught up with the same Hamelin brother who got the other american DQ'd in the previous round. The Koreans are very solid at this sport, but they always seem to initiate contact. Apparently they hated Ohno in Korea like New Yorkers hated John Rocker.

They grab the Americans in both cases, initiate the scrum, and cost one American position (and get him DQ'd inexplicably...for breaking the hug?!?!), then push the other one out of second to last, forcing him to last, making him fight just to medal. I'm not wild about the Koreans racking up the Short Track medals, but I was glad to see the Canadians finish outside of the podium in front of the home fans. Ohno was classy after, blaming himself rather than crying like a Russian figure skater, but that was some cheap shit.

I thought Ohno was poised to win last night. But it sucked that he got pushed off-balance resulting in his loss of speed. But he showed great heart and determination to pass the 2 Canadian brothers to get the bronze. p.s. those S. Koreans can skate, baby!
