OT: NHL Free Agency Thread

Happy Canada Day to our friends up north (and south in Windsor). The Wings signed Helm to a $3.85M per year for 5 years. Holland tried to go after Alexander Radulov, who plays in the KHL after a brief stint in the NHL, but thankfully the Habs took that bullet for him. Should be an exciting day.

This has become one of the most disappointing days as a Red Wing fan. Watching these guys all go elsewhere, and the ones they do land don't really pan out that well.

They haven't really signed a Tier 1 FA in a long time. I want them to use their money wisely vs. over paying to Kyle Okposo. He's going to get 7.5 mil per year and he's not worth that. Neilson will prolly sign with the wings he's a great 2 way Center knock on him would be age and he's going command 5.5-6 mil a year hopefully they only sign him for 3 years.

Nielsen is definitely a better player than Weiss, but yes, the 6 year deal for a 32 year old makes absolutely no sense.

In 2 years the salary cap could rise significantly and these deals might end up being a bargain. My biggest issue is the age. If Nielsen gets injured, it could be another Stephen Weiss debacle.

Either way it doesn't matter. Neither team is beating Tampa, Pittsburgh or Washington any time soon. I kinda wish the Wings were still in the Western Conference.
