OT: NFL Preseason & Training Camp

With training camp picking up and the season only 5-6 weeks out, how’s everyone’s team doing?

…Joe Burrow also just went down as I wrote this.

As a Skins fan I'm on cloud 9. As for the team I think the defense will be good, but the oline is booty and who knows what Howell is at QB. Either way it's a new day for the franchise so I'm excited.

I have my Titans going 3-14 and finally committing to an overhaul to clear out Tannehill, Hopkins, Henry, and more next January.

I expect Henry to have another good year - with 1300-1400 yards and 10+ TDs on what will be way too many attempts. Hopefully Haskins can start to spell Henry but who knows.

Tannehill and Hopkins should look ok but are both well on the downswing of their careers and will likely be gone after this season.

If Tannehill goes down, things could get historically bad. Malik Willis is by far the worst QB I’ve ever seen in the NFL, and Levis is unproven at this level, but is likely the heir apparent.

The OL is a disaster unfortunately. Lewan’s release pretty much ends the 3-4 decade run of great Left Tackles for the team. The rest of the OL is castaways, or first and second year players. It might get ugly.

Defense could be decent but there are a lot of big question marks.

This year’s schedule isn’t too rough, but it is very front loaded and the team just has so little talent, so I could certainly see them starting as bad as 0-10. Overall, I see them going 2-4 in the division (splitting with Houston/Indianapolis, and then getting swept by Jacksonville), and losing to everyone but Carolina and maybe Atlanta. If they split those two, that would give them 3 wins.

Fortunately, they likely have their future QB, TE, WR, and maybe even RB. The defense is fairly young as well. So hopefully one bad year can help them reload on talent, get out of bad contracts, and get things back on track in 2024.

Do NYG fans seriously think they'll even compete for the NFC East title, let alone a Super Bowl? The NYG finally have a decent head coach again, and Saquon signing and not holding out is huge (even if it's cap suicide to pay a RB that much money in today's NFL), but I don't understand how anyone  can objectively view the Giants as anything other than a middling team. What am I missing? I like Daniel Jones. His contract is hysterical, but I think he's underrated by most. But still???

The 2022 NYG had 9 wins. Only two of those wins were against teams with winning records (JAX 9-8 and BAL 10-7, both games played in October). Until they upset the Vikings in the Wild Card round, they did not beat a single team with a winning record in November, December, or January. The Eagles annihilated them in the playoffs. That's not a harbinger of a breakout 2023 season. Plus, the entire NFC East has tougher schedules, on paper, in 2023 than 2022.

NFC East has not had a repeat division champion for 19 years in a row (or something like that)

Eagles lost 5/11 of their starters on D

Eagles lost their OC and DC.

11 of the past 20 Super Bowl losers did not even make the playoffs the following season.

So, I think its safe to write off the Eagles as repeat champs.  Its also safe to write off the Commanders(*) (*new name to be named later) bc Ron Rivera and no QB.

Based on this irrefutable math, Giants have a 50% chance to win the division.  So they are probably only 2 games from the Super Bowl.
