OT: Mariusz Pudzianowski's MMA debut

Submitted by almostkorean on
For those of you who are not familiar with Mariusz, he is known for his success in Strongman competitions. He has won the event 5 times, and was runner up twice. Needless to say, this man is a beast. He made his MMA debut tonight, and all I can say is that this guy is literally a man-bear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ-bnSLuX9M His technique is obviously lacking and his opponent was garbage, but WOW. Here's to hoping he seriously commits to MMA and so we can see more of him edit: EFF I'm slow. Here I come neg city!

The ref let him beat on that guy for ten seconds after he had given up, and that's not counting the four or five seconds he ran until MP caught him. MP is one intimidating motherfucker. He could be the dominating presence the sport needs to really take off in the mainstream.

Has become fairly mainstream these days already and regularly outdraws major boxing cards, etc. And TBH, he would get dismantled by any heavyweight in the UFC. I have fought, albeit as an amateur, and practiced BJJ / Muy Thai for 8 years now. He has completely sloppy striking and doesn't throw his kicks from his hips so he relied on his size for power. His movement was very stiff and against a good striker he would just get picked apart because he doesn't show any technical boxing skill. He just bullrushed and his opponent did nothing to protect himself, it wasn't that the strikes were landing that crisp. At least with someone such as Lesnar they have very technically sound wrestling. No doubt the guy is a physical freak of nature but to do anything in the sport he has a long way to go.

Those kicks were nasty. I'm sure if that other guy had any clue he could kick those would have been avoided... You can see in that guys face he wanted nothing to do after a few of those landed. I like the strength, but way too stiff. Looks like Lesnar in his first fight.

Guys with that much musclulature just look awkward when throwing a punch. His kicks were incredibly tough, but when he tried throwing punches while standing it looked like old Bob Sapp fights. He will have to lose some of that muscle up top and get some flexibility back before he can beat anyone that can match his size/weight. They put a guy in there 50 lbs. less than him and it went they way it was expected. Highlight of the fight was the ref tackle of Pudzianowski when he tried to pull him off the other guy.

I always found it incredible that for someone of Sapp's size he had no power in his striking. He was always more succeptible to getting knocked out as opposed to knocking someone out. When he fought Noguiera in Pride he had a 100 + lb weight advantage and lost despite an early flurry.
