OT: Last Chance U S4 discussion (Spoilers)
Who has seen the latest season and what'd everyone think?
......
I had known , like almost everyone from the news ,that Coach Jason Brown would end up getting shit-canned after the season, but I had avoided spoilers to have no idea how they'd only win 2 freaking games all season, which is pretty shocking with all that talent. Brown definitely isn't that good of an in-game coach and admits it, but it's quite the backwards spiral to go from winning the conference the year before to winning 2 games. Brown is a guy you want to like and then he seems like he's okay, but then all of a sudden he'll do or say something that makes you not sad for him getting canned.
Most uncomfortable moment was when J.D. was knocked out in episode 7 and getting on the stretcher and didn't want to go into the ambulance, and Coach Brown said "Well then get the fuck up". One of the paramedics looked up like "WTF?"
Also, I saw EMCC a Buddy won the NC again last fall.
Seems like there will be a season 5, but it's unknown where it will be at the moment.
I think this season showed what a coach like Jason Brown really does to your program. Sure, he can recruit. But he comes off so unorganized, especially in comparison to the Garden City guy, it's not surprising to see GC have a great year and the coach moves up to DII while Indy had an atrocious year and Brown got run out.
At the JUCO level, it would appear being consistent and organized and getting your guys to buy into the program, makes for a more consistent product on the field than calling everyone on the team a dumbass.
Wow that team fell off the map. It was nice to see Kareem Walker score on them in the Fort Scott game.
Did Malik Henry end up anywhere? He seems like a good kid but was poisoned by his dad. At least that what it seemed like from the first season at Indy. He said he didn’t really enjoy football.
Walk-on at Nevada
Fighting for starting Q at Nevada
Malik Henry never seemed like a nice guy. I don't know if I would blame that all on his dad either.
His dad forced him to play football and dedicate his life to it. When you have parents like that, I deal with hockey parents of AAA kids, they think the world revolves around them Because their kid is good at a sport and may go somewhere. So they treat other people like they are below them and let their kids get away with bad behavior at a young age. The kids see they can get away with this behavior and they grow up thinking they can act like a pro even though they’re still young. They treat everything as beneath them. I see it all the time in the hockey world. Malik seems like a great example. I’m pretty sure in the first season with Indy, he said he enjoyed art. Away from the field he does seem like a good kid. He just gets a huge ego when it comes to football. You never know the full story with a kid. Would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially since it’s essentially reality tv we are watching and they dramatize and radicalize people’s personalities. Like buddy from the first two seasons
I didn't get the impression his dad "forced" him to play football. His dad was tough on him, and from the results of him in HS, actually got the best out of him (He was the #1 rated QB), everything after that is on Malik. Just based on his history (outside of the show), dismissed from FSU, dismissed originally from Indy before Brown brought him back, and with all that talent, could only walkon at Nevada. He isn't the 1st athlete to have an overbearing parent, and get preferential treatment during his youth. At some point he needs to grow up, and become an adult. What Malik enjoys is weed, and making excuses for his bad behavior, and his bad play. All those kids end up there for a reason, and his was his behavior, and self inflicted issues.
I think the story is his dad wasn't around at all, then reappeared to "manage" his son's football career. Malik transferred to 4 different high schools (including IMG, where I think he lost the starting job to Shea Patterson) with his dad probably complaining at every stop that he was getting screwed. So it's no wonder Henry seems to have anger issues and no respect for his coaches.
Henry's obviously got some talent. Not sure about that Georgia Tech bounce back who was supposed to be the starter at Indy. He thought he was a superstar and couldn't complete a pass to save his life. It's bizarre that he bailed on the Ga Tech option because he wouldn't get to throw it.
The show gets worse every season. Season 4 was hard to finish.
Yes! My mind always goes back to the ice tubs when I think about seasons 1 and 2. Ollie was definitely My favorite player.
Jason Brown is a complete Jackass who only cares about himself. I didn’t think I could not like a coach more than Buddy from EMCC, but that douche takes the cake.
Bobby Bruce and Markeise King broke my heart.
He doomed the season by royally botching the QB situation, like so badly it is actually impressive. For me, the toughest thing to watch is the players, often literally on their last chance, blowing off school and various assignments (and how Ms. Brittany said 98% of those kids are positive they're going to the NFL, when only a tiny handful ever will).
That Garden City game was pretty intense. I was NOT expecting their head coach to act like that after they won. He's a good coach that kinda reminds me of Mark Dantonio with the whole underdog mindset.
Kind of reminded me of East Grand Rapids HS's old coach that won all those state titles in the 2000's. Great coach and comes off as "Mr Class" to the public, but then a total prick behind the scenes to other coaches and players.
Peter Stuursma. He coached my JV hockey team in the mid 90s. One of the better coaches I ever had...cared about all of his players from lines 1 thru 4. Think he is still coaching football at Hope College in Holland?
Yup, still at Hope and doing quite well. Curious if he'll keep trying to move up the collegiate ranks or not.
I was honestly more amazed that they had won that many games the year before. Brown was so disorganized and so focused on creating hype for himself and the program that he couldn't even install an offense before game 1.
Both he and Buddy are pieces of shit, but at least Buddy was a competent piece of shit.
Buddy has won 5 of the last 7 NC's, which is quite impressive even if he is a dirtbag. He probably could've won even more if not for that fight at the end of season 1
This season felt a little boring at times, because they focused on so few guys. Didn't need 20 minutes every episode of the DE with ADHD.
