OT-ish: 2021 TE Jack Pugh to Wisconsin

Submitted by Magnus on May 25th, 2020 at 3:12 PM

Hilliard (OH) Bradley tight end Jack Pugh committed to Wisconsin today. There were some who thought that the last tight end spot for Michigan in the 2021 class was down to Pugh or Thomas Fidone, but Pugh was already trending away from Michigan. The staff seems to have most of its eggs in the Fidone basket, which I think is the right move, because Fidone is pretty dang impressive.

Michigan has offered other tight ends recently, like Erin Outley. I think they definitely want another guy in the 2021 class to go with Louis Hansen.

I think so. I'm not an expert, but I rather like Giudice. He's a large human being with good athleticism for his size and future position, and better technique than you would expect from a high school junior. He's a little hard to project because he doesn't play against good competition, but I think he can be a good player.

TE recruiting must have been significantly easier when they were selling a Harbaugh offense and not a Gattis offense. Not that I'm complaining.

How do you pronounce his name?  Should I be saying "Oh well, he's Pugh ugly anyway," or "Well Pugh on you, then"?

It's usually Pyoo...one syllable. But one he hits the Wisconsin roster, who knows. It'll probably end up pronounced something weird like  Gup, but not like Jaygup*.

*Damnit, why did I have to bring that up

"Michigan has a good recent record on getting TE's into the NFL."

Kinda but not really.

Iowa has the current track record we want Michigan to have:

- George Kittle (drafted one pick after Jake Butt in the 5th round) is now a legitimate star.

- TJ Hockenson, 1st round pick

- Noah Fant, 1st round pick

We have Jake Butt and Zach Gentry; both were 5th round picks. (Butt goes higher if he doesn't suffer than injury in the Orange Bowl.) Sean McKeon is an UDFA signed by the Cowboys for depth.
