OT: #EATING gardens and tailgating with me- Vincent Smith

Submitted by MrSmith on

Hello everyone,

Another exciting season for Michigan Football and tailgating and gardens. For those of you who do not know, I have made a career change in my retirement from Football into farming.

We have a project called #EATING and we athletes build gardens side by side with members from our communities. We started in Florida in my and Martavious Odoms home town of Pahokee, Florida and we have been in Flint since summer 2015.  It is the most rewarding experience of my life.

The focus is that green vegetables helps get the lead out and reduce the effects of lead exposure and that is the most important thing for the children of Flint right now.  Also seeing us athletes makes them want to garden.

So this season we are going to be walking around the tailgate again but this time with fresh vegetables to share! (Vegetables are from our partner farm grows outside Flint  city limits- the Flint gardens produce goes to people in Flint) Please message us at [email protected] and we will swing by with something fresh.

you can read more about us at : teamgardens.org

you can order awesome #EATING shirts at shopeating.com and show your support and fund our work

I wanted to share my favorite garden picture so far.  Its our Team Gardens member with his son.

Beyond amazing. In a world of words and promises....Mr Smith is doing work. I can honestly say as a fan of Michigan Vincent Smith is easily near the top of the greatest players to wear the winged helmet.

Sure Brady and others have done amazing things on the pro level, but Mr Smith is simply changing a whole community...no communities with his hard work and dedication.

I bought one of the #EATING T-shirts last year and the best part is explaining to people what it's about.

For anyone who's explaining #EATING to a football fan who remembers the ESPN hit, remember to mention that Vincent Smith got right back up could've been right back in to play the next down when almost anyone else would've understandably stayed down.  I'll also note that when I ordered my T-shirt, Team Gardens was in the midst of changing its website so my shirt delivery got lost in the shuffle.  After contacting the staff, Vincent promptly took care of things as reliably as he used to pass-block on 3rd down and expedited my shirt to me.   Thanks again!

Timing is excellent! I was in need of an anniversary gift for the spouse! Great stuff on the site. Thanks for sharing the info about #EATING. You are amazing.

...the best, as usual.

i love watching my former favorite players play in the nfl.  that's really fun.  but what makes me way happier is watching my favorite former players make a positive difference in the world, whatever form that takes.

vincent smith is literally saving people's lives, both physically and socially.

that's a michigan man, right there.

Lead poisoning is an underrated crisis in so many communities, even separate from the latest Fkint emergency. Keep up the great work and thank you for all that you do.
