OT: Drew Brees officially retires
Lost in a very busy Sunday, Drew Brees is hanging up the cleats. He does so as the NFL’s all-time leader with 80,358 career passing yards. 1st ballot HOF for sure.
Happy trails. I wonder what would have happened if Miami had signed him instead of Culpepper.
Brady has 1,155 yds to go.
Brady will take that and his most completions all time as well
Brady needs 365 there to break 7142.

He could break that next year if he continually completes roughly 20 passes a game. But as long as he plays the remaining two years on his contract and doesn’t get injured he’ll break it before he retires.
are there any other passing records out there that Brady doesn't have?
Brady is only 33rd in passes intercepted, he would have to throw 52 interceptions to catch Brees, and 145 to catch all time leader Bart Farve.
Qualiftying QBs with interception pct < 2%.
Great player great career.
I had actually taken a road trip to Ross-Ade in 2000 to sadly watch this man lead Purdue to a last-minute victory over us. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago now.
Yeah, I am sure he is in the HOF at the earliest possible moment.
I was there as well. They kicked a last second field goal into the endzone where I was sitting / it did not go through the uprights (home call). That didn’t stop me from rushing the field with my Purdue friends, while wearing my Michigan jersey. There was a dude in a full Spider-Man outfit who brought tools to take apart the uprights since they were engineered to be impossible to take down. He was the only guy removed by security that day. I don’t know who he is, but he is still a legend in my mind.
I was there too - I remember it being unseasonably cold and remember losing but not much else.
Same here on all counts.
I've been to more road games at Ross-Ade Stadium than anywhere else. It was roughly the same distance there as to the Big House during my 35 years living in the Benton Harbor St Joe area.
I was there as well. Opposite end zone though. I was pretty cocky at halftime, then came the kick to the balls.
That FG looked like a miss from my angle as well.
I've been to West Lafayette exactly one time in my life and never felt any inclination to go back. It's got to be the world's most boring drive to the world's most forgettable college town.

I went there once and kept wondering where the "college town" part of it was.
This Dolphins fan will always question what could have been. They had a chance on you twice and failed/ didn't want you. You did help out after hurricane Katrina and that is awesome.
Also,
Wow never saw this. That is Michael Scott level cringe.
Incredible- epic Oprah fail!
Typical Oprah.
Those last 2-3 years of Oprah were a special awful.

Queen Elizabeth and the royal family would agree.
Great career. Best to bow out and not stay in the game too long and tarnish his legacy.
Such a great guy. My allegiance will always go to Brady but Drew was one heck of a QB and such a great individual. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family. Really enjoyed his kids announcement of his retirement on Twitter today.
I bet he wishes he did last year at this time.
It was time. His production this past season, even when he was healthy, took a huge dive. And he wasn’t lacking for weapons. Brees was a great player. One of the best to ever do it and a sure fire first ballot HoF. I’m not sure I ever saw a more consistently accurate QB. But it was time for him to hang it up.
Huge questions loom in New Orleans next season. I don’t think either guy they have on the roster can get it done on a week in week out basis. Taysom Hill is good change of pace, gadget style QB for the red zone, but he’s not an every down guy, and then Jameis is who he is at this point in his career. A guy who will win you some games but lose you more of them with how many mistakes he makes.
Unless they can somehow pull off a DeShaun Watson sweepstakes, which they won’t be able to do without making some major cuts in their team, their best bet may be to gamble on a late first round QB like Mac Jones or Kyle Trask. Lawrence, Fields, Lance and Wilson will all already be gone by the time they pick.
Maybe the Lions can send them Jarred Goff for a couple of 1st round picks.

Somewhere, in the great city of New Orleans, a box of crab legs went missing in celebration of this

Best wishes to Brees. By all accounts not just a great QB, but also a wonderful human being.
His retirement is no surprise to most.
I'll never forget the videos here and elsewhere of Brees lingering on the field with his family long after the playoff loss to TB and Tom Brady, it was like Brees wanted to soak it in one last time while surrounded by his loved ones. The GOAT himself happened by and threw a TD pass to one of the young sons of Drew Brees. Touching scene.
But what a career---if not for Brady winning so many, maybe Brees wins a few more Super Bowls along the way. And maybe he's the one being listed among the best of all time.
Instant HOF'r, w/o a doubt!
Great player and seemingly great guy. I wish him well and will remember not just the 2000 Drew vs Drew game; but also (more fondly) the 1999 Brady vs Brees game.
80,000 yards. Incredible.
Brees is fantastic. My grandfather and uncle went to Purdue and I rooted for Brees when he was in college. One of the only players from a non-Michigan team who I consistently rooted for. I saw him play against the Buffalo Bills in person a few years ago and he had to jump on a number of passes to get the ball over the linemen. He's definitely a HOFer in his own right but for under 6' QBs he's got to be the GOAT.
He was also an elite tennis player as a kid and beat [Pete Samparas?] in highschool.

Funny enough, but this is the video I always go back to, when I talk about how awesome Drew Brees is.
The 2nd or 3rd best QB of all time.
