OT: Detroit Lions Trade Rumor

Submitted by Jay on
It looks like the Lions are in trade talks with the Seahawks and are considering sending underachieving DT/DE Cory Redding to Seattle for linebacker Julian Peterson. If this trade goes down, then the Lions will, in all likelyhood, take BJ Raji with the #1 overall pick in the draft.

I will be disappointed if the Lions take Raji with the #1 pick. I'm all for strengthening the OL and DL first to rebuild your program, but I'm not that high on Raji.

I agree. I suppose that they could still draft Aaron Curry and move him to MLB. I'm not too sure that would be the smartest thing to do, however. If Schwartz is looking to switch to a 3-4 defense, then Curry makes more sense with that #1 pick.

You are absolutely right. There really isn't that one player that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up because you know that they are going to be a beast. Even the two lukewarm, almost good QB's that are coming out are in bad because there are too many competent Qb's on the markete looking for work. And all the money you'll have to pay one of those top picks would be ridiculous. As it stands, the lions seem to be making practical moves now, which is good. If they still do have the number one pick when draft day comes, get ready to see Curry in a lions uniform. That is just my gut telling me that. But the lions do have enough picks to do some rebuilding in this draft if they are smart about it.

Just what Boston College wants- a reputation as a pipeline for the Lions (Cherilus?). If Raji is picked first, then you know someone in the front office hates BC...

FWIW ProFootballTalk.com hated this move. Then again, they called Cory Redding "promising" and "young" swing and a miss? They bitch on their about Peterson and his contract and while I'm no Lions apologist...have they looked at Cory Redding's contract?

I thought only Lions fans tried to argue that players who haven't even sniffed the pro bowl or any sort of accolades were as good or better than players that have. We're constantly trying to pretend our players are decent ...good, possibly not horrible. Since when is Cory Redding young and promising? Isn't Kalimba Edwards young and promising ?

"Why don't the Lions just trade the pick to Pittsburgh for Big Ben? They need a QB and Ben would be perfect. And it works for the Steelers because they move up in the draft. Come on, why don't they do it?"
