OT: Chris Getz

Just thought it was odd that he's going to make the big time out of camp. I was under the impression the White Sox middle infield was going to be Alexie (sp?) Ramirez and Gordan Beckham in the coming year, but hey, good job beating them out, and I wish them nothing but the best unless that would somehow hurt the Tigers.

As a Sox fan, I would have liked to see Beckham at 2nd, however, Getz will be solid there and Beckham could use a full-year in minor league ball. Beckham is tearing the cover off the ball right now - I can see a few things happening: trading Josh Fields and moving Beckham to 3rd or trading Ramirez for pitching and putting Beckham at SS. Either way, Getz will be a solid player. Maybe .276, 15, 60 RBI type year?

With Ramirez the CWS are going to continue to be competitive a long time. And I'm glad two Wolverines are with the winning team in Chicago! Rooting for the cubs is like rooting for Northwestern . . . you can go to games to get drunk, to tailgate, but you don't really expect your team to consistently win.

Beckham needs some more time in the minors. If Getz tanks and Beckham is destroying AA pitching, then fine, but otherwise they shouldn't rush him, it could stunt his development. You don't bring a guy up straight from low-A and expect him to succeed. Well, unless he's Albert Pujols. Most scouts don't seem to think Beckham can play SS. Of course, I'm not sure Ramirez can either, he wasn't a very good defensive 2B. Worse comes to worse, they may send Ramirez out to CF if he blows at SS -- they have NOTHING in center this year and only a middling prospect at best on the way. Beckham is the kind of guy you find room for. When he's ready he'll play, and someone will either head to the bench, switch positions, or be traded.
