OT: Aussie Rules Football Grand Final
So espn2 is showing the Aussie Rules Football "grand" final right now and it ended in a tie. No additional time, no overtime, etc. They have to play the entire match again next week in "grand final replay". Just imagine a NFL playoff game or a CFB bowl game getting replayed again because of a tie. What a joke.
And how the locker rooms in the stadium have flooded. Haha.

... why this is a joke? Every sport has its overtime rules. In golf some tournaments are decided by an 18 hole playoff. In tennis matches can go on forever. If you ask me, professional football (NFL), where the first team that scores wins is more of a joke. Imagine playing an entire season and then an entire playoff to have your fate decided by one mistake or one flip of the coin. Seems pretty foolish to me.
Just because it's different doesn't make it stupid. Plus, I'm guessing the league makes a shit ton of money on this "joke".

What happened in the game is irrelevant at the time of the coin flip. The random coin flip has a huge role in determining the winner. Both teams may be able to look back and say "if only", but the fact remains that the game was tied after 60 minutes.

The last time this happened was in 1977. The attendance of the Grand Final was 108,224 and the attendance of the Grand Final Replay was 98,366 (with the highest TV rating in Australia for any daytime broadcast ever).
I'm thinking the league isn't too disappointed when they have to have a Replay.

And I'd rather play another game than lose a game with hokey OT rules.

Did you actually watch the match? This is easily one of the most brutal sports in the world except for maybe tiger wrestling. The players are pretty much allowed to do anything. They punch, kick, and gouge the opponents until they score. The last final I saw had two broken legs and an incapacitated player due to spinal injury. One dude went to kick and an opponent dropped the elbow on his knee and snap! I don't think this sport would even be allowed in the states. Jus sayin.

I was watching last night and had to wikipedia the rules.
Crazy sport. I kind of like it now, however.

Stupid rule tho. But those guys are absolute athletic monsters.

It's awesome for the fans to see it again. I watched the matchup last night, those guys are beasts. When I was in school I had a crazy rich roommate who paid for the cable (he wanted EVERY channel we could get). One of the bonuses: Fox Sports World. We would stay up til 5 am on Sundays to watch the AFL game of the week. Also, after the Grand Final there will be a 2 hour special on the greatest plays of the season. Worth a watch.

... on my computer (don't have cable TV) and I really got into the sport. It was a little hokey at first for me, but it grows on you and is actually very entertaining to watch.

My father-in-law is an Aussie. Though he lives here in Oregon, he still has season tickets to his North Melbourne Kangaroos. In addition, he is a grand member of the MCG. I've been to two games, and boy, it is fun to watch live. It is their NFL.

Equals Awesome...my Aussie friends are currently obsessing about why their teams didn't win and now have an extra reason/occasion to party it up next weekend.
