Ondrej Styler In NCAA Singles Final

Submitted by NorfolkCharlie on May 27th, 2023 at 11:22 AM

Just thought I would update that Styler just won the first set 7-6 (7-2). If he can manage to win another set, he will be the first NCAA men's tennis champion since Michael Leach in 1982. He already is the third Wolverine to make the finals!

Good Luck and get a huge win over a #1 ranked Georgia Bulldog. That has a great vibe as maybe we can do it next January!!!

Quadruple championship point (a thing I didn’t even know was possible but collegiate tennis apparently doesn’t have deuce at 40-40, it’s just next point wins) and he lost the next four.

That feels ominous.

Still a great achievement for the young man, #2 in the country.  He had 4 championship points too.  I've played a few tournaments and the yips are real.  Just got to keep playing high-stakes matches and power through.

A great outcome for the tennis program which has been ascending for years.

Go blue!

On another board several fans are hammering Syler. Really, pretty nasty.

Glad to see none of that here.

Styler had an incredible run and was one point (one bad call?) away from a NC.

Combined, Men's and Women's tennis had their best year ever. Next year the women should be stronger. The men will decline, losing Styler, Fenty and Maloney. They still have several very good players, but the depth won't approach this year, absent some pretty remarkable infusion of talent.
