Basically the article is an in depth look at Jemarkus McFarland's recruiting process. It talks about the ups and downs that him and his mother had and really points out to how much influence a mother's decision has. At one point after he went on his official to USC he wanted to commit to them right after. However, his mother did not want him to go that far out. Other highlights of the article were how his mother hated LSU and thought Les Miles was boring and dry. They also noted how turned off they were when they saw hostesses at LSU sitting on prospects laps and also the fact that they has people to clean up the athletes dorms once a week. At USC, after they beat Notre Dame, the players rented a Stretch Hummer limo and went out to parties. After the OU TX game, he went to a hotel party where he noted that there was free alcohol and drugs and you can have as much as you wanted. He also noted that there were plenty of girls who would take their shirts and pants off and perform sexual acts. He said that he went to a similar party at a sorority at OU. He had doubts that an OU degree would get him a job at Texas and Bob Stoops dispelled that belief. At Texas his mother had worries about racism and their D-Line coach, who is black, talked to them about that. In the end they talked about how the recruitment ended up being a battle between OU and Texas and how OU won out due to the fact that McFarland believed he would be a better NFL prospect by going to OU and the fact that Bob Stoops was a homely guy and someone that his mom and grandmother liked. Last they talked about how Bob Stoops stayed at their house watching movies with the family and helped clean the dishes and also that OU's D-line coach was the selling point for McFarland.

Sounds like an interesting article. It's crazy how far some programs go in giving stuff to their players/recruits. Makes me wish I was a star football prospect. I want a hostess. Thanks for sharing.

... Do yourself a favor and read the article. Is it just me, or are there MAJOR recruiting violations going on at Texas, USC and LSU? Open bar/drug parties at Texas (and Mack Brown comes off like a pompous ass - which is funny when you consider that his only claim to fame thus far is Vince Young). USC's stretch limo service: Who pays for the limo and entry to the clubs? How do underage players get into LA clubs? LSU basically using prostitutes to entice players at parties and Les Miles' lack of social skills. It's sad that sunny weather, slutty women and wild parties continue to attract the blue chippers ("Blue Chips" was apparently right on the money). This article alone should spark an investigation by the NCAA, but it won't happen because these programs generate way too much revenue. Bottom line: character, education, integrity and all of that lip service doesn't attract the 4.3 speedsters - and that's what you need on defense to compete these days. With all of the media scrutiny surrounding Michigan's athletic program, there's no way we can compete with the "perks" at these Southern schools. Goodbye Will Campbell, have fun getting laid and smoking blunts at some sunny football factory before entering the draft.

I think it is sad that these coaches have to stoop to such lows just to sign a player. It is also sad that women are being manipulated to stoop to such lows. After David Oku's comments about his hostess at Tennessee and how he had a good time with her, I think a lot of these schools need to get investigated. Unfortunately money talks and this stuff always goes unnoticed. As far as warm weather goes, if these kids want to go to the NFL than they need to man up and play in the cold weather.

How women are being manipulated? You don't think those girls were living up to do that? Michigan was full of jersey chasers, and most of them were intelligent and came from money. Think of a girl who's dumb and has nothing, but now she has a chance to make with a future NFL star. I don't think it was tough to entice the girls to participate.

Don't they? I see what you're saying too, but I don't think anyone is making these girls believe anything. When college girls see a football star, they want to see if they can get him. Let's look at it in post-college terms: If there was an organized event with wealthy men and gorgeous women, does either group need much enticing? Not everyone sees things that way, but there are more than enough who do.

Fuck, when I visited Michigan and hung out with the Club Lacrosse team as a high schooler I went to a party with booze, drugs, and drunk girls kissing each other. It's called College.

Agreed Chitown: Here's what I read "Attractive women have sex with athletes, sometimes at places with drugs and alcohol." Holy shit, stop the presses, attractive people have sex and party. Next you'll be telling me that guys with money get more girls.
